I was not a fan of Duncan, one of Obama's Sec of Edu, but I at least knew that he could articulate a defense for his promotion of standardized summative assessments for all students, including students with disabilities.

Michelle Rhees was a little too combative with the unions was she ran DC schools, but I liked the deal she proposed to teachers that would give up some tenure protections for increased pay. She understood how to run a school. If anyone hasn't seen it, watch Waiting for Superman.

I can't really say much for Betsy Devos other than I learned what IDEA was and the difference between growth and proficiency in my first education course. She should really know those concepts. It's like if the labor secretary didn't know what minimum wage laws were...
