How Marvin Lewis bungled his message to the players

That has been the case for 15 years, that was going to be the case on Jan. 1, 2018. But it did not mean that he was indeed “coming back.” There was a reason the organization did not extend him in the offseason. They wanted to see this team reach its potential. Suffice to say, it has not.

And yes, I think it’s fair to say he wasn’t ready for that to come out when it did and wasn’t prepared for all that followed.

It simply not true to say this team hasn't reached it's potential.  They were poor last year with a 6-9-1 record and the personnel moves made by the front office in the off season ensured they would be worse and the team has lived up to that.  Hell, if they get 6 wins or more they have over achieved.

Marvin's been a perennial lame duck coach operating on one year extensions for, what?  Four consecutive seasons?  If the owner or coach isn't committed enough to sign a contract for more than one freakin' year at a time then one side obviously doesn't believe in the other side.  If that is the case, they shouldn't have been doing the deal any way.  Just another indicator at how poorly Mike Brown is as a general manager.
