That joke would be funny if someone was aware of the old joke.  That's a gag literally from a generation plus ago.

But I do agree that people tend to overreact to things these days.  Gotta be careful what you say around people in public, because everyone has their limits and things THEY hold important that YOU shouldn't joke about.
