Being treated like everyone else just means being able to go about your business, without any special attention or recognition being drawn to the fact that you're not like most everyone else.  

As long as we, as a society, continue to draw special attention to people that are different than the majority?  No one will ever truly be "equal".  It's almost like listing them as *equal.
