The one thing that stands out is how a publishing media company that deals with magazines can effect an election like Mr Pecker did by finding and covering up stories that could have hurt Trump.

Trumpsters will argue this would not have made a difference. But in such a close election one can never be sure.  If 80,000 votes in 4 states decided the election, then one or two more revelations after the Hollywood Access tape might have encouraged enough "independents" to stay home, much as Comey's revelation that he had reopened the Hillary investigation dropped her support.  The Access tape was from years before. The payoff was not.  A few thousand people might have recognized that a Trump win meant sleaze-drama for years to come, and tax cuts and a Supreme Court Justice were not worth tarnishing the nation.
