You can "feel" hate for something, but when someone disagrees with you they are not always "haters" who hate you or whatever you are defending.

And you can hate something someone does.  I hated things Obama did, but overall he seemed like a decent person.  A good husband and father.  I think the same could be said for W.  Overall probably a pretty good guy, but did some things people seriously hated.
