And I can dig their devotion to the notion but they don't always realize how they are just as partisan about their own candidate and willing to overlook any and all flaws. They want to have a major political party but also pretend that they won't be just like the other parties because...libertarian.
The rest of the the Big L friends are closet conservatives who just don't like taxes, minorities and women in power. Fun guys.

Interesting. That comports with some of my observations.
I noticed after the War Iraq fiasco that a number of conservative Republicans that I knew online and in person began calling a pox on both parties and identifying themselves as "independent" or "libertarian." That way they did not have to answer for Bush. But their values and policy goals were pretty much still traditional Republican. That's why I am skeptical of the "independent" category in polls.
Another factor though was marijuana legalization. Some Liberals became libertarian tending on those grounds.
Still, though, how can one not see the difference each candidate would make regarding domestic politics and US standing in the world.
