Showgirls isn't as bad as it is just phoned in.

EVERYONE phoned it in, from Verhoeven (who just wanted to fill the film with {bad} sex and nudity, making it less serious than his previous films), to Gershon (who was blindsided by the actual film, expecting it to be a SERIOUS drama, with a heavy plot and an Aesop), etc. Most egregiously though, Joe Eszterhaus wrote a horrid script. Berkley was the only one who really put a ton into it, but because the script and setpieces were shitty, she had nothing to work with (not to mention that she rushed into the role, trying to distance herself from Jessica Spano).

That and everyone made a joke of the whole thing lol.

Legitimately, with a proper script and better production, the film had potential to be a great re-telling or serious piece on the plight of a Las Vegas worker; be it as a Showgirl or a stripper.

Instead, it became a ridiculously campy and over the top bunch of crud.

Seriously, it is a VERY interesting look into just how Hollywood can be, the production of this film; I've read up extensively on it and it is still one of the more intriguing film stories out there, mainly because of one main thing; "how the hell did they **** it up so badly?"
