They kept calling the resistance a "rebellion" but it's not. The First Order is an invading force. 

The idea that the Resistance and Republic are one in the same. After the destruction of the Hosnian system, they make it seem like that small batch of the Resistance is all that's left. There should be Republic forces throughout the Galaxy that outnumber the First Order and can make a counterattack. Hell, the only thing that was destroyed was the Senate. The individual governments in all of the systems remain and their own military would remain as well. 

They seem to change the timeline of the destruction of the temple and the events. Disney era canon established it as occurring no more than 5 years before the start of the Force Awakens when Kylo Ren was at least 25 years old. It was suggested that Luke had been gone for 2-5 years. We see the Knights of Ren involved in the attack and Kylo Ren in his full get up.  But in the Last Jedi, he appears to be a teen, not in his mid 20's, and Luke describes him as a boy. This makes far more sense for the story, but it's a big change.
