I get that - maybe - the team sees him as someone who is still developing (although I sincerely doubt he improves much with 4 seasons already under his belt. If that's the case, we may as well bring back Ogbuehi), but you don't pay a player for potential he hasn't shown on a field, especially when no other teams are competing for that mythical potential.
I think people are just trying to rationalize a bad contract. Or make peace with it.
The training, nutrition, medicine, fitness, playbooks and rules evolve. The athlete does not.
