People learn by different means.
I'm guessing Ross is one of those types who learns more by doing than by reading or watching.
If that is the case, his injuries doomed him to failure this season. Being unable to participate in much of the offseason and training camp means he did not get very valuable reps in the installation of the offense which would stunt his learning.
