Just came into the thread, knew someone would be hating on the Dax Hill pick even though it was a need with both our 
Safeties being up after this year for new contracts. I prefer keeping the hard hitter and adding the cover guy myself along
with you Nicomo. To act like this is a John Ross pick as Scotty here just said is completely stupid and inaccurate in both 
position and injury history.

Injury was the reason I questioned Ross, there isn't this question with Dax Hill who plays in the Secondary all the time.

Dax Hill is a hitter like a Linebacker that wraps up, can play Corner, cover with range at both Safety positions.

Injuries weren’t what cost Ross, he couldn’t run routes or catch. I guess I’ve heard different scouting reports than you I guess. From what Mcahay says he isn’t an nfl safety he is a slot corner. I get it you like the guy so you’ll defend. I’m just saying it wasn’t a good pick for what this team needs at this part of the draft. That’s my opinion.

We could also play around with disguises that have Bates playing middle and this kid playing single high out of blitz packages and our base cover 2.

If that 4.3 speed really translates and hes intelligent enough to make plays in zone, he opens up a whole new bag of plays for Lou. He did have a solid number of passes defended in this past year so he does have the ability to get around the ball in zone.

Uh, he had the second most tackles on the Wolverines D from that slot position.  That's pretty dang busy for a slot.  It's like he's playing SS in the box to get stats like that.

Did you not read anything? He may have played that at Michigan but many analysts say he isn’t suited to play safety at the nfl level. Understand the conversation please.

I would love to know why they believe that skill wouldn't transfer over.

He wont be in on obvious running downs so him not being big enough to bang inside isnt an issue. Most teams dont send Mike Evan sized WRS over the middle so theres no real fear of him being bullied. Yeah TEs are big guys but the TEs hed be guarding are pass catchers and not guys that want to bang.

If his main pros are playing safety and covering, and hes of NFL size which he is, that SHOULD translate to the NFL.



If they are talking about tackling numbers, hell probably rack up a decent amount of tackles just by virtue of where hed be taking most his snaps

Getting a B (I’d personally give it a B+) with the 31st pick in a somewhat atypical 1st round that only saw 1 QB come off the board is pretty damn good.

Who would you have picked that you think would have got an A? And getting a B or B+ with the 31st pick isn't bad. "Many" analysts don't say he's not suited to play safety. Being versatile enough to play more than just safety doesn't mean he can't.

That's 3 A's for a 31st pick and the same or even higher grade than given to some teams with multiple first-round picks.

Your complaint was picks below 20 and you're bringing up picks that were all above that. Dude...comparing Hill to Ross is just dumb. He's a much higher value pick than Booth or Gordon and has the athleticism to play corner. It's a bad take. Just take the L and move on.

Daxton Hill, S, Michigan | Highlights
Why they picked him: Secondary depth was a big point of emphasis for the Bengals. While cornerback was the glaring need, Cincinnati also could use a safety given the roster situation. Jessie Bates III is playing on the franchise tag and Vonn Bell is on an expiring deal, leaving both without a contract after 2022. Hill gives the Bengals an option as a long-term starter.
Biggest question: There isn't a lot of downside for Hill with the Bengals. He has been healthy and productive in three seasons at Michigan. Cincinnati could have opted for a cornerback to slot behind Eli Apple and Chidobe Awuzie, but the Bengals instead opted for someone who should give Bengals defensive coordinator Lou Anarumo the schematic flexibility the team has enjoyed with Bates the last four seasons. -- Ben Baby
