Personally, I think the best defensive player to trade for is Jeff Simmons from TN. He could fit under the cap with a little work and would keep the full team in tact.

Both had issues, obviously Mixon was more serious but I think Alex dropped into 3rd round because of concern with knee injuries . Also Alex came into a much better situation with New Orleans as a top tier NFL team, while Mixon came into the Bengals on a down hill trend his first 4 years.. flip the two players and Mixon would probably be the better player stats wise. In the end though Alex has had a better career but Mixon has been a solid back in the NFL, so it was not a bust or overreach pick, just one of those splitting hair picks between two solid college RBs both with concerns.
