I’d only do it if I knew a tag & trade was the goal and I already had a sucker lined up. Forget draft compensation, we’re bad at it. I’m trying to trade Tee for someone straight up. Find an offensive challenged team like LV (Crosby) or NYG (Lawrence). Maybe look to reunite him with Sunshine in JAX, not sure what they have to trade Oline, DLine, or secondarywise that is worthwhile though.
If I’m thinking of tagging him to play him and keep him one more year, I’m firing whoever is giving me that advise for the possible missed opportunity to make my TEAM better in the long run.

The injury season was his last under contract, IIRC.
We tagged him & he went out & gave zero effort in the regular season.

I doubt you could get a significant player for him.

NO
He doesn't want to be here, hence the "injury". He wants to be a #1 and he knows he's not gonna be one here with Chase. Meaning he wants paid as a #1
Let him go and lets fix the O and D lines.

Which teams would actually pay him $26 mill AND give up a high draft pick for him?
Mike Brown will want something higher than a 3rd round comp pick for Higgins, which no team will give while also having to pay that much for a player.

Tagging usually ends up being a regret.
Players rarely seem to play up to the cost of the tag.

Especially for us.

Higgins has played a full season only twice in 5 seasons.
He's missed 12 games in his career, which averages to >2 games a season missed.
If Higgins makes the equivalent of $30 mill for an entire season (17 games), he's making $1.75 mill per game.
You could justify only giving Higgins $26 mill because $1.75 mill x 15 games = $26.25 mill.
Feels about right for someone who is now averaging missing a few games a year.

Did not think it was smart to tag him this season personally. if he is tagged twice then he will know there is no chance of signing with the Bengals and just fake an injury and pocket the 26 million and stay healthy for the team that will pay him.

Agree with so many others - too much for a guy who cannot stay on the field. Wish it was feasible, because I love Tee.

Well, he also only averages around 75% of the offensive snaps in the games he does play.

I actually think that he may just end up signing back here. With ESPN projecting him to have 580 yards this year and 641 last year, maybe he gets a deal with performance incentives, but I just don't see anywhere close to what I think he's looking for ($25 million+).
Frankly, I just don't see him ever returning to form from his first 3 years. Those soft tissue injuries can be tough to prevent depending on the player.
I wouldn't mind resigning him but it would have to be for a team-friendly deal. Maybe if Burton somehow grows up, we won't have to worry about it anymore.

I really like Tee as a person, he's one of the best. I enjoy watching him play too. However, he's just injured way too often to pay the money his camp is looking for, or to tag him again.

Why not use the transition tag this time?

Well, honestly Tee Higgins isn't worth $29M+. (It's the average of the top 5 salaries at the position)
