Maybe.  If you're interviewing coordinators, I'd be asking candidates what they could get out of the DBs in-house.  

If guys like CTB, Hill, Turner and Battle start looking decent, then I'm blaming the coaching.  If they fail to meet expectations gains, then it's a evaluation issue, ie largely Duke.  To that point, caches are involved in scouting and evaluation, so there's no real scenario where they don't bear some responsibility.

With that in mind, there have been rumors about certain defensive players and a lack of professionalism.  Battle, who showed promise, struggled to get snaps early on.  Many gave Lou a ration of shit for this.  Now, I'm hearing that Battle came to camp significantly overweight and slow.  Not Bell and Lou favoritism.  Not Lou being stuck in is ways about veterans and youth.  It was a player coming in fat.  That's as unprofessional as it gets if true.  

CTB, oddly regressed after playing well as a rookie and in his second year.  Mental lapses killed him.  Lately, there have been hints that he'd embraced more of a party lifestyle this year and that it impacts this play.  It's weird to me considering what a good kid he has always appeared to be.  

You don't hear this stuff about Joe, Ja'marr or Tee.  Or Trey.  You hear about guys that shut their families out on Saturday to get focused on gameday.  Obsessive professionals.  

I think there may have been a bigger cultural lapse than we realize this year.  These guys are scapegoats, but how many others did similar things if true?

What was his excuse for playing an injured/ineffective Hubbard the entire year?

had they kept Bates, maybe it would have been a better season.. also Britt got burned a lot, is all I can remember, at least had more minuses than pluses...

The secondary got better 2nd half of the season, not sure if it was due to coaching, or they were basically reminded that chances of them losing their jobs is possible.

Let’s keep in mind Bates was not Superman when he was here. He’s prospering in Atlanta because their system on defense fits his skillset well.

They "simplified" some things. Not sure exactly what was simplified (coverages and responsibilities, or just the language in making calls).

I don't dispute that, I'm sure that was part of it, but..... The level of competition went down to end the season as well. 3 win Browns, 3 win Titans and they made them look good for quite awhile, 7 win Cowboys but they looked like hammered dog doo at many times during the season and just weren't that good. And lets face it the Steelers weren't all of that either.

That's why I'm very hesitant to proclaim this player got better, that is fixed, we're good on defense now and so on.

Agreed, I was just letting him know what the "public word" was when the team was asked about the perceived improvement in secondary play (safety position in particular)

On another note, I think that the secondary will look better this year simply by having Dax Hill and DJ Turner back and healthy. We knew it was going to be a shit show when they went down for the year, and all we were left with was CTB and some back of the roster guys.

He was pretty badass when he was focused in Cincinnati. He's at least one tier above any player currently in the secondary. Probably more than a single tier above them all.

he was superman compared to the performance of "what we had" this year
