Closing Time by Semisonic
Really interesting stuff about their frontman Dan Wilson.
It appears he's quite the songwriter.
Let's just say Closing Time ain't the only hit he wrote.

One of my favorites and it is really not my genre.
One of the few songs where the title is never mentioned in the song.

A-ha actually had some big hits over in Europe. "Take on Me" was the only thing that was big here in the U.S.

The guy who joined Jefferson Airplane and they became Jefferson Starship.
The same guy who sings their classic songs "Jane" and "Find Your Way Back".
I actually play that song Fooled Around and Fell In Love in my band. I really enjoy playing the solo in that one.
Especially since most of the leads I play are more aggressive and uptempo. It's nice to play a slower one with a lot of feeling like that.
OK thanks. But Marty Balin still did vocals when they were Starship right? Like miracles and Count On Me.
I hate the abbreviated radio version of Fooled Around where they cut out a verse and a lot of that solo. And while i'm asking, what instrument makes that sound that's prevalent in the song?

What about Taxi or Taxi Driver? Whatever it's called.

What about Donovan. I can think of three songs by them, but I don't know if any of them make them a one hit wonder. Mello Yello, and Atlantis would be the two that would vie for that, but then you have Hurdy Gurdy man which probably not a lot of people know, but may have the first heavy metal guitar solo in history. Probably not. That's just me saying it and not based on anything.
Also "Hold Your Head High by Argent." Or did they have some other hits?

Right. Can't believe I forgot that one. That was bigger than Cats in the Cradle.

Here is Hurdy Gurdy Man. Maybe not a heavy metal sound to the guitar, but not something you heard a lot of in the late 60's.

Looks like it was used in the movie Zodiak. That would fit quite well.

I'm suprised nobody mentioned "To Love Somebody".
That's a Bee Gees tune that has been covered by quite a few other musicians.
Hell even my band is considering it to cover.
Probably anyone who looks it up on here will have an "Oh yeah... I've heard that one." moment.

That's a good one and one that more people may know would be "How Can You Mend a Broken Heart".
