I don’t want any defense in the first round. If they trade down, I want them to select an offensive player. That being said, I don’t believe they are trading down, so I’m not too concerned.

YOu add to the WR group with the additions we've already made on defense we're going to win games......their is a difference. I agree WR is a position of need. LB is also a position of need. Unless you believe somehow Pratt is going to make a sudden leap from painful mediocrity and Gaither is going to have the switch magically flip in year two. And Wilson, whose potential I like, was a part-timer last year. And there is this- I think Parsons is a better player than Chase or Pitts. Scandalous I know.

They both stress the defense and make others around them have matchup favorability

Parsons is not worth the 5th pick anyways. If we were talking about a LB later on possibly. I don't like Parsons character issues and would rather have Jamin Davis or Jabril Cox anyways.

When you are in a position to get one of the elite guys, you don't trade back.
Stay at 5 and take Pitts, Sewell or Chase - unless you can move down to 6,7 or 8 and still get one of those guys.

I don't know why people keep putting Chase in the "generational" category. He's not that guy. He had a nice pro-day, but let's face it, the 4.38 he ran would have been a 4.44-4.58 at the combine. I get it, he played with Burrow, but he's not head and shoulders above Smith and Waddle.

Smith and Waddle are both SMALL.They're going to get bullied by bigger CB's in the NFL. They're not gonna dominate like they did in college. On the other hand Chase has the size and speed and all the other intangibles to be an ELITE WR in this league. Huge difference!!!

Yeah, they need defensive help. But, they need offensive help more. Particularly, upgrading the Oline.

We are not allowed good linebackers here in Cincinnati, one got suspended and thrown out the league, and the other got fined and suspended to death and ran out the league.

Lots of unicorns this year. We'll have a little unicorn farm... the draftee with average size and speed will be the true unicorn hehe...
To be honest, I'm not sure Pitts even qualifies. I have yet to hear a solid argument as to why he's a mismatch creator and someone like Jacob Harris (6'5", 4.4, 40 inch vertical, 11 ft broad, etc.) is not. I figure Pitts is just the guy who was nominated for the "TE Matchup Problem Trophy" this year. As a past winner, Eifert should be there to present him with the award. Chase is not a unicorn in any way, shape or form. Same with Sewell. I'm partial to Sewell, but unicorn is not a term that applies to linemen- they're all freaks. Ogden might be the only one I can remember who had a legit claim at the time, but even then... it's a fine line between Jonathan Ogden and Dennis Roland.

D line also has some depth and above average starters, but could definitely do with a piece or two. Linebackers are the weak link for sure and could do with a talent injection. Nice post, I also agree, I think we already have a lot of the players to make a good Defense if they can stay healthy. Reader coming back, Waynes, bringing in Hendrickson and Ogunjobi etc. I still want a couple more pass rushers though, Boogie Basham, Patrick Jones and I want us to look at 3-techs like Nixon and Stills in the mid rounds. Think we take Sewell in the first and go WR and pass rushers afterwards now. Lou has had all the help he needs on his side of the ball, time to put up or shut up. Get Sewell, run the ball with Mixon, eat the clock, score TD's and make it easy on the Defense. Keep them fresh. |
