Been playing Pokémon Brilliant Diamond.
First time I've played a Pokémon game in 20 years.

Big rumors about a Chrono Cross remaster. While nothing all that major, any Chrono news is good news for me.

This is a top 10 game for me, personally...and I'm one of the 4 people on the planet who prefer Cross over Trigger.
Amazing story, music, and umpteen recruitable characters. I almost named my daughter Harle because of this game.
You just made my day.

tell tale is back? I thought they stopped making games.
In that case, I need a new monkey island, sam and max, and maniac mansion.

Chrono Trigger, one of the best RGPs ever. The best of the best RPG era?
I still prefer Final fantasy 4J (2U) only because it was the first RPG I actually understood, but the music/plot/battle was good.

I played through all the 8/16 bit Final Fantasy games over the past year. The 16 bit games still hold up (and VI is still a masterpiece), but I through III did not age very well at all.

Hot take: VI was better than VII.
Tbh, I have VI only behind X (which I know is a divisive game).

too bad FF12s story was so bad, because the combat/gambit system is the best gameplay combat system in any RPG ever. Hands down.

Bro you're scaring me. I was thiiis close to mentioning how much I loved 12's combat system, but the story held it back. If the story wasn't so weak and kinda boring, it'd be my top FF for sure.
I had my gambits set up so tight I could eat cereal while watching my team in boss fights.
Btw, I forget the knight characters name, but to this day when I piss off my wife, I say "I must apologize. I'm sorry. Forgive me. For the sake of Dalmasca!".

That might not even be considered a hot take anymore.
Without nostalgia goggles on VII barely makes it into the top 5, if at all. VI, IX and X are all pretty clearly better. There is a good argument for VIII, XII (my personal favorite) and XIII-2 as well.

The FF perfect game for me would be a modern engine + FF12's combat/license board + FF VI's story.
Knight Character = Basch his twin brother who betrayed Dalmasca was Gabranth
Problems with the Story:
Vann = I love his character, but he is a very poor protag. Basch would have been a much better central character
Lady Ashe = Her obsession with revenge really damages her character. She is supposed to be the great rebel leader, but her attitude is that of a spoiled child willing to exact revenge at all and any costs.
Balthier = Best groupable character in the game, and would have been a better central character than Vann. His story and character development are not used very well in the overall story.
Basch = Disgraced noble knight again would have been a better central character
Lord Vayne = what a craptacular and uninteresting bad guy
Going out to grind levels for hours is more interesting than moving the story along and that's a problem.
Larsa = The best part of the story (well ahead of Balthier). Every experience with him is good and done well, yet after the emporer is murdered, he's almost forgotten.
Side note: Combat in FF games has sucked since FF12. They had the perfect system and keep changing it. I can't stand FF13/FF15.

Couldn't agree more. And yet despite the Disney-esque characters and story the combat, atmosphere and exploring all make it my favorite.
If Shake REALLY wants a hot take. FFXIII > VII. Don't @ me
