Bengals Injury Update
#81
Well, not great news but it could have been worse.

At DT/NT, Reader and Hill will start. That's OK. Depth is is problem. I'd be STUNNED if Ogunjobi can play. Frankly, I'm surprised he has not been ruled out or put on IR already. I suspect that is what the evaluation is about. Could he be back by the SB or should we IR him? I'd be thrilled to be wrong.

Tupou is the next option. That injury looked bad vs Cleveland. But ZT is talking like there is a chance he COULD play, which is anazing. Fingers crossed. He could spell Reader at NT and Hill at DT.

Shelvin is on the 53 man, but has not looked good. He is healthy. But I feel both PS guys are better options. Though he is at least a NT.

Daniels likely out this week. Maybe he can get back in teo weeks if we win. Wren got carted off vs Cleveland and has not played all year prior. I think moving Sample (or possibly Kareem or Hubbard) inside may be an option. But being down Hendrickson likits that.

This is the week we likely would want to play 5 DL to stop the run, with 3 DTs, and we may only have 2 healthy.

I'm trying to think positively, it could be that being in a boot and having treatment for 48 hours will have allowed the swelling to have decreased dramatically.  Or initial studies ruled out fractures but they want confirming xrays.  Not all wait and sees are bad.  So I am in the glass half full mood. Probably just left over joy from yesterday but

Do you know if they did a MRI at the stadium?

I'm sure they did but MRIs won't show fractures

That is the way I like to think Pally.

Rough our DT's getting hit like this going into a game against a running team like the Titans.

Shelvin I know didn't play well against the Browns but that might be motivation for him. He is a run stopper.

So what do I get when he gets surgery after the season?

His right ankle was inverted everted and externally rotated. I’d look for a medial ankle sprain involving the deltoid ligament. You can see the doc palpate the medial aspect of ankle over his cleat and you can see Ogunjobi flinch in pain right before they cut away to the commercial.

I hope this isn’t the case but it look like Ogunjobi hurt his Achilles. I ruptured mine in March and I grabbed the same spot on my leg as he did. Like I said I pray it’s not and Trey H make it through concussion protocol because we need him severely.

Say what? MRI's are one of the best ways to see fractures. I can see all three of the fractures in my back in my MRI's.

https://www.webmd.com/a-to-z-guides/understanding-fractures-treatment

Quote:How Do I Know If I Have a Bone Fracture?

Doctors can usually recognize most fractures by examining the injury and taking X-rays.
Sometimes an X-ray will not show a fracture. This is especially common with some wrist fractures, hip fractures (especially in older people), and stress fractures. In these situations, your doctor may perform other tests, such as a computed tomography (CT) scan, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), or a bone scan.
In some cases, such as a possible wrist fracture with an initially normal X-ray, your doctor may apply a splint to immobilize the area and order a second X-ray 10 to 14 days later when healing can make the fracture visible.
Occasionally, even after the fracture diagnosis has been made, you may need other tests (such as a CT scan, MRI, or angiogram, a special X-ray of blood vessels) to determine whether other tissues around the bone have been damaged.

Besides, if PBS went to the expense of an MRI machine, I'd be surprised if they didn't have an x-ray machine as well since they are a fraction of the cost.

I feel like we would of known immediately if it was his achilles.

If they start shifting people we already have, I expect Kareem or Sample to get extended time at DE and Hubbard move into the DT spot.

And what I said was he looked terrible when he got a chance (against Cleveland). But yeah, I’m sure he’ll look better because *reasons* against an even tougher team in Tennessee… Ninja

The Cincinnati Enquirer’s Kelsey Conway reported on 12/22/21 Joe would decide if he would get finger surgery after the season.

That’s hardly “confirmed” as you claimed.

MRIs can detect fractures that aren’t evident on x-rays. Having watched his injury a ligament injury is more likely than a fracture, although both would be in the differential diagnosis. A x-ray usually can’t detect a ruptured ligament unless there is widening of the joint space or an avulsion fracture to suggest ligament injury. He would need an MRI to confirm or rule out a ruptured ligament. And since they have one at the stadium, I was just wondering . . .

That didn’t look like an Achilles injury to me. I didn’t see him grab at his Achilles. I did see the doc palpate the medial aspect of the ankle where the deltoid ligament is located and Ogunjobi react in pain to palpation of deltoid ligament.

As I feared, Ogunjobi to IR, ending his season. Shame.

XSF activated and takes that roster spot.

OL depth increasing. DL depth decreasing.

Now we need to know the status of Tupou and Wren. If Wren is able to go he can be elevated from the PS

Well, I think the longer we go without claiming someone, it probables bodes well for at least one of Tupou/Wren to be able to play.  I mean, if we are gonna bring in a new guy, then sooner would be better.  He does not know the system and we play Saturday.

Or it could mean we have decided playing a new guy in this situation will not work and if Tupou/Wren cannot play, we are gonna roll with Reader/Hill/Shelvin on the inside, plus whatever Sample can give us inside, plus Hubbard/Kareem/Sample/Ray on the outside if Hendrickson is a no go.
