We might be "close", but it is silly to say that free agents are all dying to come here to win a ring when there are 4 or 5 other teams given a better chance rigth now.

It’s not silly at all. We were just 90 seconds away from winning the Super Bowl, we have one of the best QB’s in the league, and most importantly of all - we have cap space and money to spend. Teams like the Chiefs, Rams, and Bills don’t.

Cincinnati should absolutely be viewed as a top FA destination. A player like Gronk saying he wants to come here would have been unimaginable until recently.

Considering we're really only weak at OL right now (assuming Bates returns and we get one of the 3Ts back), I'd feel safe to say we're still pretty high on every list on players we want.

We have 6 starters who are free agents.  "Cap space" is a meaningless number if you don't look at how many free agents a team has to replace.

We will have money to bring in several nice additions even after re-signing our own players. None of them are getting big money outside of maybe Bates. And they will probably tag him anyway.

You’re really working hard to try and not see how bright things look right now.

Plus we can cut guys like Waynes and Hopkins and free up even more money to go shopping.

No more than you are trying really hard to think everything is rosy when it isn't.

We have $49 million in cap space.  We could create another $10 by cutting Waynes.  That is $59 million to replace 6 starters plus 2 key rotation guys that played almost 50% of the snaps (Hill, Topuo) plus our punter and long snapper, plus our top 3 gunners on special teams, plus a safety that played 25% of the snaps.

A lot of those will be small contracts, but they all add up.  And considering many people around here called Reiff's $7.5 million contract "cheap" I think it will be difficult to resign all our players plus make the big additions many people want.

Name these 4 or 5 teams with a better chance.

Tell me all about the great QBs they had between Bradshaw and Ben. Slash was fun to watch, but I wouldn't call him a championship QB, and Neil O'Donnell was well.. Neil O'Donnell. Who can forget about the legends that were Bubby Brister, Turnover Tommy, and Charlie Batch.

You are right to not count out the Steelers organization, but lets be honest, their QB history is questionable at best.

Good ole Bubby Brister. I used to love facing the Steelers with him at the helm.  Hilarious

Where did you come up with 49 million? I thought closer to 60 million. You do a lot of research but appears when you discuss cap you have not broadened your depth. Look at 32 teams cap space and their own free agents they need to sign.
You will find we have top 5 cap space. a late round draft (less money needed on 2022 draft class) and are not in bad shape with our core. Take a look at the Saints who don't even have a QB or Rams with weak draft position to sign Miller, Corbett and others yet I expect they will creatively find a way to make it work after going all in in 2021.

So many ways to creatively manage the cap when for now we have a franchise QB paid a lot less than Waynes. We have the money to build a great team if they make the right choices. Cap in future will rise due to 17 game schedule so time to quit worrying about carrying over cap money ans spend it now. Time to go all in

I am so ready for 2024 season. I love pro football and hoping for a great Bengals year. Regardless, always remember it is a game and entertainment.

Funny thing is ai also use spotrac and 2 weeks ago close to 60 million, now your number is correct
But we are top 5 in cap money and a average team only has over 13 million. This teams also need to signq rookie class and have FA's to sign.

That was my point. We are in much better shape than 2/3 of the league in cap space

It may have already been mentioned, but the type of free agents we’re going to attract are going to be guys near the end of their career that see Cincinnati as a possible place to grab a ring. Depending on where you go, oddsmakers have the Bengals and where from 4th to 7th in likelihood to win the SB (I see you guys are already arguing about this, but I don’t really know how betting works, so argue away), and aging stars will see the young core and the large cap space as validation of that.

Players looking for their second contact are going to be looking for money over a ring. Maybe even looking at destination cities before looking at likelihood of winning a ring.

The rest ? we'll have to see where they are come August.

Like Nicmo says, you're really trying hard to look for the negative.

Oh boy, if you enjoyed seeing Trae Waynes collecting a paycheck while not playing then you'll love Brandon Scherff. Nothing like throwing a dumptruck full of money at a guy in his age 31 season when he's been on the IR 3 of the last 4 years, and in the year he wasn't on the IR, he still missed 6 games.

You typically find some players who are in the tail end of their careers willing to take reduced pay in order to play on a contender, as they've made plenty in their career at that point.
With that said, those players typically are 1-year or 2-year rentals.
It's the players who are entering their prime that typically go money first, contender second.
Those are the guys who sign 3-year deals or longer.

.....yep you can get the rental guys on prove it deals that are on the right "side of the hill", and get another decent payday even if it is short time.
