If they had cut him this season, they'd actually lose cap space. He has a $1.7m cap hit this year and if they cut him, he'd turn into $3.1m in dead cap space, and then you'd need to spend an extra ~$500k on carrying a different inactive OL anyway to replace his roster spot.
Next year he'll save about $650k in cap space if he's cut, so it'd make sense cap-wise that he could be replaced by a different cheap guy.

Most teams once in a while miss on some second day picks. That's the rule. That's being said, he's still very young so there's some hope.

He was a local kid, who seemingly was going to turn his 5 star pedigree into something exciting in the NFL.
Teven Jenkins
Alex Leatherwood
Jackson Carman
All OL busts from the 2021 draft.
Sam Cosmi
Creed Humphrey
Asante Samuel
Those were the best available when they took Carman, looking back

Actually, it's not.

He was great against Dallas, and okay against New York. Putrid against Pittsburgh and bad against Miami.
Which averages out to fine. He easily is playing better than our Tackles. If Carman was on this line, he would likely slide to worst on the line. He’s making progress, and heads and toes ahead of where Carman is.

If you assign static point values to those descriptions, sure, but it doesn't work that way. I don't agree. His bad games have been worse than his good games have been good. That is why I say he hasn't been very good. He has been below average. You obviously don't agree with that assessment, and that is fine. I think he has flashed some, which makes me optimistic.

I don't know about easily, but we're getting into semantics at this part. I think he has been better, if only marginally. I can't imagine Carman would do any better and given that he has dropped so far, I have no problem believing he would be the worst.

He is a bust in the purest since.
I don't think his heart is into it anymore.

His whole problem seems mental, not physical. Which is the opposite of most of the bums we have drafted on the OLine.

It sure looks that way, sadly.
I hated the pick but was hopeful.
Generally speaking, I am not a fan of:
1) Tall guards (bad for leverage)
2) Drafting guys who are injured
3) Drafting guys to play a different position
Carman hit the trifecta, with motor issues to boot.

I can't see how this is possible if he doesn't play. Granted, there's a long way to go this year and injuries happen, but it doesn't bode well that he's a weekly inactive when there's already a guy hurt (Prince), nor that they picked up a backup LG off waivers (Scharping). What would they be keeping him for? Clearly don't trust him. Just to pretend like he's not officially a bust?
I think it's a foregone conclusion that he's gone. Just a matter of time. I say sooner than later. The noise around the alleged sexual assault doesn't help either. Plenty of guys can do what he's doing (i.e., nothing) who come with far less baggage.

Maybe we can get him to Play Fullback? well that also involves blocking so many not.

Yes, I wanted Humphrey and Cosmi. That said, I think I'll let Carman turn 23 before completely calling him a bust.....

Lol that reminds me how he was demoted from the extra lineman role too. He was serviceable there at the end of last year but HA's got it on lock now.... playing more and more snaps every week. So Carman's not only been spinning his wheels, he's regressed- not only as a starter and backup, but as a specialist. Offers virtually no value. They make personnel decisions as if he's not there. He's a PS'er on the 53.

What are you basing this on? Jonah is tied for 4th and Collins is tied for 28th in Sacks Allowed by T's. Volson leads all G's in Sacks Allowed. He's also tied for second in Penalties among G's. He literally has been called for more penalties than Collins and Jonah combined. Kid is miles from "fine."

Yes. It's time to trade him to the Giants.
