Bengals Release Chris Carter

Way too many DL busts being carried on the roster, now effecting the team's depth because I think we all took Dalton starting 16 every year for granted.

Somebody seems to be a bit salty today.

1. A contender that loses a starting QB this late in the season is always going to value experience over "upside". We need a QB who isn't going to embarrass himself out there. Ponder has played decently for a team with no WR's.

2. I'm sure Marv could've talked to Leslie about Ponder.

3. Look how Gabbert is playing for SF. Who would've guessed that would happen? You never know what a change in scenery will do.

If McCarron goes down, I think we'll all be happy we have another guy who has actually won games in the NFL on the roster.

No issue with Carter released but why havent they signed a qb yet? Seems like they are a day behind on dealing with all of this

Carter has been more effective than many others on the roster (margus hunt...cough...others). I understand they need to bring in a QB but certainly there was someone else who could have gotten the deserved axe.

Jessie Bates left the Bengals and that makes me sad!

We need Margus to not be effective.
What will we do if Margus isn't out the being ineffective?!?!

Oh yeah, play Will Clarke who will be ineffective.

Of all the players to release, it's Carter. At least he has shown something. Really liked his upside. One of the few players we had that could bend the corner while rushing the passer.

Sure, he has shown something on the football field, but how far can he throw a discus or shotput? Exactly. Good riddence to that football player. Ninja

So, guys, which NFL team is going to shell out the big bucks to sign Carter now that he has all this great game film to sell himself.

15 tackles and zero sacks in 46 career games must be worth what?  7 or 8 million a year?

BTW Margus Hunt has 1.5 NFL sacks and has played 20 fewer games than Carter, but, hey, lets all keep hating on him because we haven't liked the guy since he was drafted.  I mean it doesn't matter if Carter never registered a single sack.  All that matters is that he is not Hunt.

Even Clarke has more sack than carter in the NFL.

Same here, we have McCarron, Sanu and Wenning. All have more upside than Ponder or Tebow IMHO.

These guys can all throw the ball down the field, Ponder can't and neither can Tebow.

Carter was a good ST'er and a decent speed rusher. We will need all of those we can get down the stretch
more than a backups, backup QB that has no arm. The FA QB pool out there is downright terrible.

I think there might of been another player we could of released besides Carter.

We can't put Carter on the PS, we might of been able to with Uzumah though.

Hopefully the Eifert concussion is not too bad... Confused

Carter really hasnt done much... and our young DE's DT's are in the situation our young CBs and young WRs have faced in the past... Solid starters ahead of them make it hard to get reps.

I like Carter's energy, but we need to keep it real and factual.

Carter is a special team player (good one) and a one trick pony as a pass rush specialist. Only one major problem, he has zero sacks. He is not good holding the edge against the run (too small) thus guys like Hunt and Clarke who both can play DE and DT are much more valuable.

2024 may go on record as one of most underperforming teams in Bengal history. Bengal's FO has major work to do on defensive side of the ball. I say tag and trade Tee Higgins in 2025 to start with the rebuild.

Why? They don't hold the edge either and offer nothing on special teams.

They are both better at holding the edge (run defense) than Carter, it is not even close trying to move a 250 Lb. guy versus 280 to 290 lb. guys.

You can't really want to get rid of Clarke or Hunt to keep Carter. Carter is essentially a linebacker who might play DE on some passing downs. If MJ went down, we would be very thin on the end of the line. Clarke and Hunt aren't going to be huge sack guys, they play a different role in this defense - as does MJ.
