Current state of the Roster: 2023 FA
#61
Thought I'd give this another shot after Day 3 draft picks. Adding 5 more players. Still have 2 holes at QB2 and OG4. Though an already signed player probably takes OG4.

I.  53 Man Roster: Signed Players = 63.

A. Offense = 29

1. QB (1): Burrow
2. RB (4): Mixon; T. Williams (KR1), C. Brown, Evans (KR2)
3. WR (8): Chase, Higgins, Boyd; Irwin, Morgan, Jones (PR), Iosivas, Taylor (PR)
4. TE (3): I. Smith, Jr., D. Sample, Asiasi
5. OT (7): Brown, J. Williams; Collins (I), Carman, Ford, Adeniji, D. Smith.
6. OG (3): Cappa, Volson; Scharping
7. C (3): Karras, T. Hill, Brown.

B. Defense = 30

1. DE (7): Hendrickson, Hubbard; Murphy, Ossai, C. Sample, Basham, Gunter
2. NT/DT (5): Reader, BJ Hill; Tupou, Carter, Tufele
3. LB (5): L. Wilson, Pratt; ASG, Bailey, Bachie
4. CB (8): Awuzie (I), CTB, Hilton; Turner,  Jones, George, J. Davis, Ivey
5. S (5): D. Hill, Scott; Battle, Anderson, Thomas

C. Special Teams = 4.

1. PK (1). McPherson.
2. P (2): Robbins, Chrisman
3. LS (1): Adomitis

II. Practice Squad Players = 12.

1. Jake Browning, QB
2. Kwamie Lassiter, WR
3. Tanner Hudson, TE
4. Nick Bowers, TE
5. Devin Cochran, OT
6. Nate Gilliam, G
7. Raymond Johnson III, DE
8. Owen Carney, DE
9. Dominique Davis, DT
10. Keandre Jones, LB
11. Marvell Tell, CB
12. Yusuf Corker, S
------------------------

Projected 53:

QB (2): Burrow; QB2 (not Browning)
RB (4): Mixon; C. Brown, T. Williams, Evans
WR (6): Chase, Higgins, Boyd; Jones, Iosivas, Morgan
TE (3): Smith, D. Sample, Asiasi
OT (4): O. Brown, Williams; Carman, Collins
OG (4): Cappa, Volson; Scharping, Ford (OG/OT)
C (2): Karras; T. Hill
-------------------------
DE (5): Hendrickson, Hubbard; Murphy, Ossai, C. Sample
DT (5): Reader, BJ Hill; Tupou, Carter, Tufele
LB (5): Wilson, Pratt; Davis-Gaither, Bailey, Bachie
CB (6): Awuzie, Taylor-Britt, Hilton; Turner, Jones, J. Davis (slot2)
S (4): Scott, D. Hill; Battle, Anderson
------------
PK (1): McPherson
P (1): Robbins
LS (1): Adomitis

Signed guys on outside looking in = 10.

1. Irwin, WR (close with Iosivas)
2. Taylor, WR
3. Adeniji, OT
4. Smith, OT
5. B. Brown, C
6. Basham, DE
7. Gunter, DE
8. George, CB
9. Thomas, S (PS, protected)
10. Chrisman, P

Collins likely starts the year on IR/PUP, so that would open up an OT spot for Adeniji/Smith. With the new PS rules, some vets can stick there (Thomas, Basham).  IIRC, you can have 6 vets and 4 protected players on the PS. 4 protected: #5 safety (Thomas/Anderson), Iosivas (if Irwin beats him out), Basham, + Smith/ Adeniji loser.

I wai a few says until the UDFAs are done. We are up to 75. Room for 15 more for camp. Pally has a great list going in another thread.

OK, gonna give the Roster a shot. The UDFA dust seems to have settled.

We have 67 players signed. 13 of which are guys who have thus far only been in the Practice Squad for us. I put these 13 in a separate list. Don't discount them entirely, Browning is QB2 atm. I also included the number of accrued years for each player, as PS rules limit the # of PS players with more than 2 years to 6. 10 have to have 2 or less. And we have 8 draftees I have put in with the 67 signed guys. 67 + 8 = 75. We signed 9 UDFAs. 84 total. I believe we can carry 90 into camp. 4 guys are dealing with injuries and may not bexready for camp: Collins, Ossai, J. Williams, and Awuzie.

I.  Signed Players = 54 + 8 draftees = 62

A.  Offense = 28

1. QB (1): Burrow
2. RB (4): Mixon; T. Williams (KR1), C. Brown, Evans (KR2)
3. WR (8): Chase, Higgins, Boyd; Irwin, Morgan, Jones (PR), Iosivas, Taylor (PR)
4. TE (3): I. Smith, Jr., D. Sample, Asiasi
5. OT (7): O. Brown, J. Williams; Collins (I), Carman, Ford, Adeniji, D. Smith.
6. OG (3): Cappa, Volson; Scharping
7. C (2): Karras, T. Hill

B.  Defense = 30

1. DE (7): Hendrickson, Hubbard; Murphy, Ossai, C. Sample, Basham, Gunter
2. NT/DT (5): Reader, BJ Hill; Tupou, Carter, Tufele
3. LB (5): L. Wilson, Pratt; ASG, Bailey, Bachie
4. CB (8): Awuzie (I), CTB, Hilton; Turner,  Jones, George, J. Davis, Ivey
5. S (5): D. Hill, Scott; Battle, Anderson, Thomas

C.  Special Teams = 4.

1. PK (1). McPherson.
2. P (2): Robbins, Chrisman
3. LS (1): Adomitis

II.  Practice Squad Players = 13 (75)

1. Jake Browning, QB [R]
2. Kwamie Lassiter, WR [1]

5. Devin Cochran, OT [R]
6. Nate Gilliam, G [R]
7. B. Brown, C/G [R]
8. Raymond Johnson III, DE [3]
9. Owen Carney, DE [R]
10. Dominique Davis, DT [1]
11. Keandre Jones, LB [3]
12. Marvell Tell, CB [4]
13. Yusuf Corker, S [R]

III.  UDFA's = 9 (84).

1. Jacob Saylors, RB, East Tennessee State [R]
2. Calvin Tyler, Jr., RB, Utah State [R]
3. Shedrick Jackson, WR, Auburn [R]
4. Christian Trahan, TE, Houston [R]
5. Jaxson Kirkland, OG, Washington [R]
6. Devonnsha Maxwell, DT, Tennessee-Chattanooga [R]
7. Jaylen Moody, LB, Alabama [R]
8. Shaka Heyward, LB, Duke [R]
9. Larry Brooks III, S, Tulane [R]
------------------------

Post is long enough. I will take a swing at projecting the roster, and practice squad, in a bit. Will go position group by position group first.

This is my projected 53 barring any injuries and the season started today.

QB (2) - Burrow, Browning
RB (4) - Mixon, *Brown, Williams, Evans
TE (3) - Smith, Sample, Asiasi
WR (7) - Chase, Higgins, Boyd, Irwin, *Jones, *Iosivas, Morgan
OT (4) - Brown, Williams, Carman, Ford
OG (3) - Cappa, Volson, ^Scharping
OC (2) - Karras, Hill
^I could see Scharping getting the axe potentially if/when Collins returns, as they have multiple OTs who can play OG if needed

DE (6) - Hendrickson, Hubbard, Ossai, *Murphy, Sample, ^Basham
DT (4) - Hill, Reader, Carter, Tupou
LB (5) - Pratt, Wilson, ADG, Bailey, Bachie
SAF (4) - Hill, Scott, *Battle, Anderson
CB (6) - Awuzie, CTB, Hilton, *Turner, Jones, Davis
^I could also see Bengals going 5 DE and 5 DT, keeping Tufele instead

K (1) - McPherson
LS (1) - Adomitis
P (1) - *Robbins
Zac Taylor 2019-2020: 6 total wins
Zac Taylor 2021-2022: Double-digit wins each season, plus 5 postseason wins
Zac Taylor 2023: 9 wins despite losing Burrow half the season
Zac Taylor 2024: Started 1-4. If he can turn this into a playoff appearance, it will be impressive.

Sorry for Party Rocking!

We are almost in complete agreement. One different at WR, OT, DE, DT.

QB (2): Burrow; Browning
RB (4): Mixon; C. Brown, T. Williams, Evans
WR (6): Chase, Higgins, Boyd; C. Jones, Iosivas, Morgan.
TE (3): I. Smith; D. Sample, Asiasi
OT (4): O. Brown, J. Williams; Carman, Adeniji (Collins on PUP)
OG (4): Cappa, Volson; Scharping, Ford (OG/OT)
C (2): Karras; T. Hill

Collins starts on PUP, allowing Adeniji to make the roster. I have Ford as both the #4 OT and #4 OG. I think Scharping is safe as OG#3. Adeniji & Carman cannot play guard, at all. Ford is bad, but they are worse. I only keep 6 WRs. Irwin did not make the final roster in 2022 or 2021. I think he battles with Morgan for the last spot. If Iosivas shows good ST/blocking development, Morgan goes, but if the route running is good, it will be Irwin. If other guys can take over the Morgan role on ST (Battle, Anderson) then maybe Irwin stays too. He is the better receiver.  I am tempted to say Jackson flat out takes the Morgan spot, but I am not sure there is a Morgan spot.

DE (5): Hendrickson, Hubbard; Murphy, Ossai, C. Sample
NT/DT (5): Reader, BJ Hill; Tupou, Carter, Tufele
LB (5): Wilson, Pratt; ADG, Bailey, Bachie
CB (6): Awuzie, CTB, Hilton; Turner, S. Jones, J. Davis
S (4): Scott, D. Hill; Battle, Anderson

I think we want 3 guys whi can play nose on the 53, but if we think Tufele has a better chance to pass waivers than Basham, then maybe the other way. Mike Thomas is the other cruelist cut, but he passed waivers last year.

PK: McPherson
P: Robbins
LS: Adomitis
KR: T. Williams, C. Jones, Evans
PR: C. Jones
Holder: Robbins

Practice Squad (if no one gets claimed):
1. Basham, DE (Vet #1)
2. Thomas, S (Vet #2)
3. Irwin, WR (Vet #3)
4. Taylor, WR (Vet #4)
5. Gunter, DE
6. Ivey, CB
7. George, CB
8. Jackson, WR
9. Smith, OT
10. Kirkland, OG
11. B. Brown, C/G
-------------------
12. QB (not on roster yet)
13. Best camp RB (Saylors)
14. Best camp DT (Maxwell)
15. Best LB (K. Jones, Vet #5)
16. Best TE (Bowers, Vet #6)

I think Wilcox will be re-signed and make the roster, and bump Asiasi down to the PS. Not happened yet.

15 competing for PS spots:
1. Tyler, RB
2. Lassiter, WR
3. Hudson, TE
4. Trahan, TE
5. Cochrane, OT
6. Gilliam, OG/C
7. Johnson III, DE
8. Carney, DE
9. D. Davis, DT
10. Moody, LB
11. Heyward, LB
12. Tell III, CB
13. Corker, S
14. Brooks, S
15. Chrisman, P

I am sure some of our last cuts/PS guys will get claimed and some of these guys will make it.

I've seen that dude get pushed back on rollerskates for 3 years straight now, ain't nothin changed.
I'd rather roll with a 7th WR than see Adeniji make the team.

That is completely understandable.

Assuming Collins is still out, I'd go 7th WR (Irwin/Jackson), 6th DE (Basham/Gunter), 5th safety (Thomas), 7th corner (Ivey, George).

I must admit, going light on OL did not really even occur to me.

Appreciated. Heck, the picks aren't signed yet either. I jumped the gun a bit there. But I will keep the UDFAs in a different area, even after officially signed.

Maybe it's just wishful thinking, but if Kirkland can get through camp and the preseason healthy, I think he makes the 53 man roster instead of either Adeniji or Ford.

Yeah. He is a nore natural guard, that is for sure. Have him on my PS, but that would be wonderful.

I know we really liked Ben Brown in camp last year before the injury. No idea where he stands, either. A surprise OL energence likely comes from either of those two.
