Daily observations from camp

Have been saying it the past couple of years and will keep on saying it: look up Mark Bruener and Dwayne Carswell.

Sample is our version of them, IE: he will be around for 7-11 years or so, is a great blocker and reliable enough as a pass catcher, with around 100 yards a year and a TD.

He's not as tall and big as Carswell, but the point standsWink

Matt Lee is looking like that late round gem that many were hoping he would be. I was reading this morning that he's yet to give up a single pressure this preseason. I know it's just preseason, but it's definitely something positive to take note of. Another thing that I noticed is that he's got great awareness in the way that when blocking and a defender turns up field, he releases from his block. For many rookies that would almost always end up in a holding call.

Volson is meh, but I like him, and he has far exceeded my expectations

They are going to use him as the lone back as a blocker for Burrow on third and long. Sure it’s predictable but with 4 WR like Chase,Burton,Tee, and Yoshi/Gesicki if they send 5 it’s at their own peril. If we block it gonna be hard doubling more than Chase and if he’s in the slot..
Romo “ so impressed with Zac ...1 of the best in the NFL… they are just fundamentally sound. Taylor the best winning % in the Playoffs of current coaches. Joe Burrow” Zac is the best head coach in the NFL & that gives me a lot of confidence." Taylor led the Bengals to their first playoff win since 1990, ending the longest active drought in the four major North American sports, en and appeared in Super Bowl LVI, the first since 1988.

When Sample is at H-back the QB is usually untouched because he is so good at picking up the blitz or rubbing pass rushers.

Drew Sample isn't getting cut. I actually am understanding Casear's thoughts on Hudson more and more even if I really like the guy going
against Zone, he isn't a good blocker and both All and McLachlan look like better all around TE's and are younger.

I haven't watched much of him.
I didn't get to watch the first preseason game and I only watched the first half of the 2nd one before doing other things.
Zac Taylor 2019-2020: 6 total wins
Zac Taylor 2021-2022: Double-digit wins each season, plus 5 postseason wins

I got to watch the first Preseason game and haven't watched the 2nd one yet so I am the opposite. McLachlan does look very smooth, catches
with his hands, ran some nice routes and he shows more in blocking than Hudson. Looks much stronger as well. I can understand why Casear
likes McLachlan from the little that we have seen.

Also heard All made a nice block in this last game from Synric. Nice problem to have and I like Hudson a lot myself.

Sam HUbbard and Trent Brown have returned to practice.  Sam is restricted to individual drills

Kendrick Pryor has a finger injury

Jake Browning will be another week or so.

Trent Brown practicing is pretty big - his back must not have been all that serious. More preventative than anything.

Now I know what Pats fans were talking about when they called it the "Trent Brown experience" and a "rollercoaster" lol

Lee has definitely earned a spot on the 53 because he's the guy I don't think will make it through waivers. On the other hand I would hate to see him not get his redshirt year because the reason he was a 7th rounder has not changed he needs to get bigger and stronger. The Pass Block stats are nice but I want to see him dig out NTs in short yardage which he will see alot more of...
I have the Heart of a Lion! I also have a massive fine and a lifetime ban from the Pittsburgh Zoo...

I didnt see Pryor in the game against the Bears so Im guessing this injury was before the game.  I liked Pryor a couple of years ago but wonder if his time in Cincinnati is about up.

I hope Brown is 100% ready by the time the season starts.  I do not want to see Cody Ford at RT protecting Burrow.

I'd just do low impact conditioning with him all throughout camp. I don't even need him to have practice reps. Just condition his ass and get it in shape.

Would be great if Kirkland can play RT as well as he played LT during the game Saturday.

He definitely needs a year or two as an understudy to build up his lower body and work on getting under the DL, but I'm pleasantly surprised with what we're seeing thus far.

The weather was pretty awful last week in Chicago when he was taken out and they had already lost 2 players so I'm sure that "abundance of caution" thing kicked in

The backup guards and tackles all practiced on both the right and left sides.  The ones who can be versatile are the ones who will make the team

Dax Hill was the defensive MVP of camp today with 2 PBU in scoring position

Im very excited about Lee and Im sure he will get stronger the next 2 seasons behind Karras, but I dont think we should ever expect him to be digging out NTs and pushing huge dlinemen off the ball at a high clip.  I'll be very happy with excellent pass coverage and zero QB sneaks with a NT present.

Local medi officially sounded the alarm on Burrow today and it’s not good.

There has been whispers his wrist has digressed with more bad days during camp then good. Sounds like today the alarm went off. Wrenching in pain and or discomfort after every throw. Inability to do more than dump offs. Trying out a glove to assist with loss of grip.

It’s a significant development. More to come I’m sure
