We sent Jackson packing….

Man, who could’ve saw that coming?

If I'm not mistaken Paul Alexander said Carmen was a first round talent.

Hate to agree with the piano man, but he was right talent wise. Heart must of not been taken into account. Dude doesn't try to be great.

Kirkland is my new hope of the backups and is finally showing some good things. Matt Lee is already showing he was a steal.

Alexander should have no input on the offensive line.  I hope Mike Brown learned from this fiasco.

We don't know for sure, who was responsible for the Carman pick.Duke Tobin,is in charge of player personnel. It could have been him.Mike Brown is 89.Almost 90.He said a long time ago,he is not running things anymore.

Willie Anderson also said the same thing about Carman. Jackson Carman is a former 5 star recruit he does not lack for talent just drive.

Carman did not work out, i had preferred not to trade back and thought he would be there in 3rd round, but regardless great majority projected day 2 pick.. it is much easier to measure talent than desire.. did not work out here maybe the cut will change his desire. Below summary of a couple draft sites many people use

PFF: Part of Jackson Carman’s fit depends on what position teams envision him playing. I think he’s a solid Day 2 pick as an offensive tackle, but he may have additional upside at guard. Working on the interior would not only alleviate some of his concerns but also accentuate some of his strengths. He may be more highly-rated as a guard by some teams, which could impact his stock. However, he ultimately has the tools to be successful at both spots.

Walter Football; Carman’s size and power make him a fit for a power-man-blocking scheme, and his quickness and athleticism makes him a good fit to play in a zone scheme. Some team sources think Carman should move inside to guard in the NFL due to his technique issues. Others think he can be a starting left tackle. With that variation, some view him as a second-rounder while others think he is worthy of going late on the opening night of the 2021 NFL Draft as a surprise first-round pick. It could make sense for Carman to start out his career at guard and eventually move to left tackle.

Carman's gone. End of story. Let's look forward instead of backward. Mims looks sharp and Lee looks sharp and even Kirkland looked pretty good. We're building out the reserves / future starters on OL nicely. My only real concern is if McKinney Jackson starts the season on PUP or IR then we are a bit thin at DT. I suppose in that instance Tufele fills in as the other three spots are locked.

Jaxson Kirkland looked like a whole new player this pre-season. His pre-season was more impressive than Matt Lee's playing really well at 3 or 4 different spots.

I think lingering back issues are part of Carman's problem

He lacks talent at this level.  I haven't seen him flash once.  With these big time recruits and big time college players, usually it's a consistency issue.  Carman has been consistently bad.

Very excited about Kirkland and so happy he has made the adjustments and become a better player for us.

Watched him dominate a lot at Washington and was really disappointed in him as a rookie. Nice seeing him come around.

You weren't watching the Bills Playoff game or other flashes in the pan with Carman. He definitely flashed if you were watching.

He flashed terrible most of the time though lol

This makes the most sense, as Tufele has been with the Bengals since 2022.
He knows the defense that Anarumo runs.

Hill and Rankins get the start with Jenkins, Carter, and Tufele backing them up and in the rotation.
This might be Carter's last season to try to make a name for himself on the team.
Across 33 games and 896 defensive snaps, he has only 5 total pressures, per pro-football-reference.com
Although PFF has given him credit for more hurries (15) and 17 total pressures.
Regardless though, that's very low for that many snaps.

His forte was supposed to be penetration, as shown from his 17.5 sacks and 26.0 TFLs in 3 years in college.
Zac Taylor 2019-2020: 6 total wins
Zac Taylor 2021-2022: Double-digit wins each season, plus 5 postseason wins
Zac Taylor 2023: 9 wins despite losing Burrow half the season
Zac Taylor 2024: Started 1-4. If he can turn this into a playoff appearance, it will be impressive.

Sorry for Party Rocking!

He was, he just did not have the drive.

Jackson flashed a lot. He played well at LT, and as a guard he had some tremendous run blocks. He just was not consistent.

Both Tufele and Carter sucked last year. We should add someone here if neither can improve and I was a big Tufele fan when we brought
him in and he made some nice plays when Reader went out. But these 2 were not good at all last year besides a couple of plays.

While I somewhat agree with that sentiment, it would have to be someone who is ok with being DT4/5 on the depth chart.
Usually those backup DTs aren't refined anyway, so you'd be taking a gamble on someone regardless.
At least Carter and Tufele know the system.
Anyone coming in new would be learning from the beginning of the season, which I don't see happening.

And if the thought is a veteran, it would have to be someone arguably washed up looking to just be a rotational guy on a contender.
I'm not sure the Bengals would be willing to go that route while trying to figure out Chase's (and Higgins's) new contract(s).

I don't know who has such a glut of IDL talent that they'd be cutting someone with real good potential that the Bengals could pick up.

Well I mean we had Billings for years before he went to the Browns and Bears and shined. It isn't out of the realm of possibility
that we could find a DT better than Carter that is for damn sure. I still like Tufele a bit so hoping he gets back to his play from
before last year but Carter has the one run stop against the Vikings last year and that is about it. He hasn't shown pass rush at
least nothing us Geno Atkins Bengals fans were used to.

I thought you were gonna bring up the trade for BJ Hill before bringing up Billings lol.
I think Tufele is fine for the last DT spot while Jackson is on the mend.
Once Jackson is back, assess who is more valuable to the team - Tufele or Carter.

Given the TE situation, maybe the Bengals could trade one of their TEs to a team with some IDL depth and make it a win-win for both teams.
I personally think though let's give Carter this year before moving on. He is only in his 3rd year and we knew he needed to develop more coming out of college being a tweener. Carter was more of a (3-4) DE coming out of college anyway. He might not quite have the sand in his pants to handle IDL on a full-time basis.
