53 man roster projection
MOOOOOO-MA MANIA! Seriously could see some early down 43 run blitz packages for Maema with how he takes on OL blocks.

Ford is, atm, ahead of both guys in terms of likelihood to play.

You never know how preseason performance is going to translate to the regular season but Kirkland went up against 1st and 2nd string guys and looked good.  Ford went up against those same guys and looked bad.  I would put Kirkland in before Ford.  Yes Kirkland was an UDFA last year but that was because of his injuries in college and in particular his ankle injury.  Then of course he was injured last year with the Bengals.  At one time Kirkland was projected to be a 2nd round draft pick.  Now that he is finally healthy maybe he lives up to his early expectations.  I would trust him out there more than Ford.

I will take a stab:

Offense = 25

QB (2): Burrow; Browning
RB (3): Moss; C. Brown, Williams.
WR (6): Chase, Higgins, Iosivas; Irwin, Burton, C. Jones
TE (5): D. Sample, Gesicki, All, Hudson, McLachlan.
OT (4): O. Brown, T. Brown; Mims, Ford
OG (3): Cappa, Volson; Kirkland (Ford & Karras)
C (2): Karras; Lee
-------------------------

Defense = 26
DE (5): Hendrickson, Hubbard; Murphy*, Ossai, Johnson
DT (5): BJ Hill, Rankins; Jenkins, Jackson*, Carter.
LB (5): Wilson, Pratt; ADG, Bachie, Njongmeta
CB (6): CTB, D. Hill, Hilton; Turner, Newton, Davis.
S (5): Bell, Stone; Battle, Anderson, Anthony.
------------
Specials = 3.
PK: McPherson
P: Robbins
LS: Adomitis
---------

Astute readers will note that is 54. I suspect that whomever has a longer return timeline: Murphy or Jackson, will join Ivey as the 2 players who can be on IR but not take a 53 man spot & come back.

C Sample, Evans, and D. Smith are IR'd for the year.

FWIW, I believe J. Davis, Hudson, and Irwin all have 4+ years, so they become FA's if cut. If we want to sneak another guy through and cut a vet temporarily, those are your best bets.

I think all that is probably right. And I agree. I just don't think the Bengals agree. Until I see it, I won't believe it.

EDIT: Ford can play 2 spots, Lee is C only and Kirkland G only at this point. That is why I think he is more likely to play, plus his experience.

Now, I certainly think Lee and Jaxson have more upside. If a better, multipositional OL reserve became available, I'd sign that OT/G and release Ford before I released Lee or Kirkland.

Kirkland started at LT against the Bears and RT against the Colts while Ford started RT against the Bears and LT against the Colts.  They flip flopped at tackle those 2 games and Kirkland looked like the better tackle in both of them.

The rules allow for players to go to IR today and be eligible to return. They don't have to cut "safe" veterans to make room on the roster

There's like a time frame for that right? noon - 4pm if they don't go on IR by then they aren't eligible to return?

they can designate up to 2 players to return to the active roster if placed on IR today.  Even if they don't return these players will count against the 8 player max.

Thanks for that correction.

 Yea, I just mean "Today" ends at 4pm est I believe so if Myles Murphy or McKinnley Jackson aren't put on IR very soon(in the next 15 minutes) they are on the 53.

Edit: It could be 4pm PST though so 7pm est?

Think we could use a castaway punter.

There is nothing that says Perine isn't as good as he was after being gone a year. His time in Denver was better (and equal to his time here stats wise) than Bell's time in Carolina (which he struggled with injuries and being benched) and everyone just acts like Bell will be the player he was 2 years ago.

Perine doesn't have the mileage, and 3m for a 6th pass blocker is peanuts. He set the tone on the Offense and when he was gone there was not bite or physicality on Offense. We don't beat KC without Perine setting the tone (massive stiff arms) in those games. He was an invaluable piece of the offense.

I'm not trying to cut Williams, I'm working the 53 to allow for a 4h rb.

I'll have to see Moss in action here before I buy in. Disappointing we still don't know or haven't seen how he fits here after all offseason, camp, and preseason. We didn't get any answers about the run game and with the loss of Mixon, that was one of the things we were all looking to see materialize.

Im with you. Im all for bringing Perine back. His experience in this offense is invaluable right now.

Looks like Bengals are running with 3 RBs, 5 TEs after final cuts.
They could still pick up a RB and let a TE go before the season, but for today's moves this doesn't surprise me.

Grats to Lee and Kirkland supplanting Carman and Hill from the roster.

I'm a bit surprised they're rolling with a 5th safety over a 6th CB, but that's probably only until Ivey is ready to return.
Zac Taylor 2019-2020: 6 total wins
Zac Taylor 2021-2022: Double-digit wins each season, plus 5 postseason wins
Zac Taylor 2023: 9 wins despite losing Burrow half the season
Zac Taylor 2024: Started 1-4. If he can turn this into a playoff appearance, it will be impressive.

Sorry for Party Rocking!

Tommorrow by 4 we could see some 53 movement at RB, possibly DT, and LDE.

Congrats to Duke Tobin and staff getting all 10 picks plus a couple of UDFA's on the initial 53 man roster.

A major infusion of young talent and easily the best roster of the Burrow era.
