Injuries-week 5

Eventually is the key word there.

Cool, but if the Ravens have a goal line play or two I would like to see McKinnley's big body out there to hopefully get a stop.

I think he gets a few snaps. We need bodies and he is essentially taking Carters roster spot on the active list..

I think Jenkins took Carter's spot and ran with it. Jenkins is kind of a hybrid like BJ Hill but he can play 3-tech and makes plays unlike Carter.

McKinnley Jackson is a Nose Tackle.

Carter was supposed to be a pass rushing DT. He is a converted DE, after all. And undersized DT with no pass rush (zero pass rush wins this year) is not worth much.

Rankins is supposedly the pass rushing DT. Jackson (at 330) and Jenkins are prinarily run stoppers at this stage. Hill is more of a hybrid.

Not disagreeing Ike. They drafted Carter to be a pass rushing 3-tech like Geno, but he sucked. It is what it is.

Rankins is our only true 3-tech right now and I sure hope he starts to earn his money as he wasn't good in his snaps either.

Jenkins is a great run stopper even if he isn't big like McKinnley Jackson. I think Jenkins can do both like Hill though, hence
calling him a bit of a hybrid. Expecting McKinnley to be primarily a run stopping NT.

Jenkins will develop as a pass rusher over time. He has the physical tools just wasn't used that way in college. He was the best run stopper at DT in the draft, and does it with a combination of smarts (like the angles he uses in his run D) and being REALLY strong.

Eh, T'Vondre Sweat is pretty damn good.

Agree 100%. Swapping Rankins in for Reader was mega stupid.

Rankins has a $12 mil cap hit, Reader's is $5.3 mil. We should have kept DJ, and used that extra $7 mil to bolster the team elsewhere.

We are $9 mil under. Take a chunk of that, the $5 mil we paid Sample, and all of a sudden we are in the $20 mil range for a prime DT. Wilkins' cap hit in LA is $10 mil, FFS. Madibuike's in Balt is $7 mil. Jones in KC is $7.3 mil.

Our FO does a terrible job with structuring/restructuring contracts.

And, in the above scenario, we have Reader + a prime DT FA, and no need to burn 2 of our top 4 picks on DT. At least 1 could have gone elewhere, if not both. S, TE, OG, OT, DE, CB, etc.

Well said, should of kept DJ Reader and put that dough to a top DT, heck keeping Reader and bringing in Rankins wouldn't of been as bad.

I think the coaches and FO thought DJ would be back though, assumption the mutha lol

Yes, I know Jackson is a NT. Carter only made the active squad because Jenkins and Jackson were injured. If they thought Jackson couldn't give them snaps, they would have left him on IR till he had more practices under his belt. I believe they could have held him out 21 days?

Plus I don't think they thought Reader would be ready till mid season

WOAH! WOAH! WOAH!

Are you implying that a professional Cincinnati franchise has a medical staff that makes inaccurate readings?

I won't stand for this heresy.

Probably correct. Still, I saw more from the backups in preseason than Zach Carter.

I think they were just trying to justify the pick maybe, as it was a wasted somewhat early pick they made on the guy.

Big miss obviously, that is why I don't like drafting someone and moving them to another position.

Cannot do this when you rely so much on the Draft.

Could of been. He wasn't ready for the opener.

Happens. Still was a mistake letting DJ even go to Detroit.
