Idgaf if we draft first over all, whoever it is, draft that guy.
I'm hating the bengals "draft the best player" strategy Tobin seemed to tout, draft the best defensive lineman, we SUCK!
On the opposing note, someone else mentioned something hilarious. We don't trade our draft picks as if they're gold to us, yet we also draft poorly. Trade the ***** draft picks and get Tee out of here already!

Its pathetic and dont see why NFL hasnt stepped in on this BS to force Brown to have a minority interest. We need a wealthy owner thats ready to step in and do everything it takes to modernize this team otherwise I can see drafted players pulling an Elway or Eli on them
Have I seen it? LOL
I posted the entire personnel departments of each AFC North team on this message board 2 years ago. It is embarrassingly inadequate. Just one more reason why Mike Brown is an all time Top 5 worst owner in the NFL.

Our hope now has to be the Bengals take away the pain of this week's loss and the KC loss by making a miraculous turnaround and end up in the Super Bowl. Sounds bizarre at this point in time, given the defense, but it's what I'm going to hang onto. Miracles do happen -- and lord knows Bengals fans deserve one.

They will be lucky to go 6-6 the rest of the way.

If the Bengals are pretty much out of it by the trade deadline, no harm in trying Burton out there to find out.
If he is, you save a draft pick/FA $$ to put toward another position.
If he's not, you could use the gained draft capital from a Higgins trade (if traded) to help get a different guy to become your 2nd option in the passing game. Or just someone cheaper than what Higgins will command.
But I would think half a season of forcing Burton into the lineup would really help that evaluation.
Zac Taylor 2019-2020: 6 total wins
Zac Taylor 2021-2022: Double-digit wins each season, plus 5 postseason wins
Zac Taylor 2023: 9 wins despite losing Burrow half the season
Zac Taylor 2024: Started 1-4. If he can turn this into a playoff appearance, it will be impressive.

Yea I gotta be honest, my prediction is 5-6 wins assuming Bengals can a win or two in the division.
The other wins I have are against the Giants, Raiders, Titans, and maybe Chargers.

I speculated about that scenario in another thread. It's tempting, isn't it? To look at the schedule and see the potential wins and start day-dreaming about playoff scenarios. But that's what's been happening for some of us since the New England loss. And outside of the Carolina game, it's not come to fruition.
At this point, how much do you want to invest emotionally in this team? It's so much easier to just throw in the towel and start perusing mock drafts. Personally, I can't get excited in-season about a draft damn near seven months away. But, I guess doing that is easier for some.
Sounds like I'm talking myself into still thinking they can still have a productive season. And to do that, they absolutely have to win the next four.

My opinion is, if the defense can just be bad, instead of awful, we can win a lot of games. This offense can sore on any team.

Bingo, lots of time to go on a run.
If we were 2-6, I'd say the chances were slim, but even 2-5 can turn into something fruitful (see 2012).
It's a crazy league.

With this offense, we are capable of beating any of the other 31 teams in the NFL on any day.
With this defense, we are capable of losing to any of the other 31 teams in the NFL on any day.
How the season winds up depends entirely on how well the offense counteracts the defense.
Early on, it has been bad.
We've also played against 3 elite offenses in the first 5 weeks of the season (no one thought that the Commanders would be elite in the pre-season, but they've proven it thus far).
Our next 4 games are against the Giants, Browns, Eagles, and Raiders.
Those are the #27, #30, #18, and #23 scoring offenses in the NFL, respectively.
We could very realistically be 5-4 at the midway point of the season, assuming our offense doesn't give up after watching the defense play.
We have a top 5 offense in the NFL. Those teams are never out of the playoff race until the season ends. You can go on a 10 game winning streak at any moment.
We've given away basically every inch of slack we have for the season, but it's not over yet.

This is a Super Bowl offense, through-and-through. This is a first pick level defense. I don't have any faith that the defense will be able to get it together. I don't think Cincinnati is going to go 3-14 or any nonsense like that, but I am guessing 6-11 to 8-9. The season isn't over, of course. There's a lot of football to be played and I will watch every second of it but I am firm in my belief that this is not a playoff team. The defense is just absolutely awful.

If you ask rational folks who are the 2 best teams in the AFC many would say Ravens and Chiefs. We were a suspect DPI call on 4th and 16 and a botched FG from beating both. I think we'll finish much better than we started.

Agree with this completely.
The schedule is not a guantlet, and if the defence can play at a below average but passable level, then we can win any game left on our schedule.
The problem however, as we all know, is even if the defence picks it up... the offence will then cool off. Such is life when following the Bengals lol.
In all seriousness, great as Burrow has been we cannot expect he'll be this good every week. But I do expect him to play at an elite level and if the defence is playing at a remotely professional level, we have a shot in most games.

One would think that improving from AWFUL to just BAD wouldn't be too much to ask. But.........

Yes, might as well get guys like him or Jones in the games.

The defensive line is just so bad. It's the foundation of the defense and they give up way too much space in the run game and can't win with any consistency in the pass game. Everything crumbles from there. I really hope Myles Murphy ends up working out because man, they need it.

I havent watched the all-22 yet but I thought Myles had some very encouraging plays. My take on the dline is that it can only get better. Our safeties are also doing a terrible job with tackling.

No we don't and no it doesn't.
The only time I can ever think of that happening in the past 15 years, was when we punted Teryl Austin, but that was due more to losing Andy for the year and starting Jeff Driskel. If Andy stays healthy, I firmly believe that '18 team makes the playoffs (and would've been one and done), as they had a MAJOR turnaround on D after Marv took over.
But couldn't score 14 points a game even, with Driskel in there.

I too thought Murphy had a stellar game, shed blocks a few times and had great pursuit. I'm looking forward to seeing him against Eluemunor/Neal.
Hopefully Hubbard can stack another decent game like yesterday too: if only he got Lamar down, it would've been one of the best games of his career.
Getting Rankins back will also help (I think I've written that 90 times today so far lol), maybe not so much for run D, but definitely for rushing and pushing the pocket.

Figured, just getting tired of the doom and gloom is all (not that I blame anyone, but there are healthier ways to get it out).
