No one in his right mind parks the bus and just settles for a 50+ yard field goal. Especially on a day in which the offense was setting records.

No “fanz woulda been hella pissed if we git sacked er fumbull lol.” That’s ludicrous.

Time was no factor. There was no reason not to try to move into better field position. I have never seen a coach do what he did Sunday.

Yeah, the defense is reprehensible and that is a much bigger issue. It also makes that decision even more dunderheaded.

Have to expect some of the “coaches can do no wrong” crowd to defend this nonsense, but everyone outside of Cincinnati and Baltimore was lampooning the decision. It was malpractice and indefensible. Period.

Exactly

I just strongly feel ZT and Co. played it way too weak considering all the circumstances.

1. We were basically desperate for a W - so why rely on a "risky" 50+ yard FG ??

2. The offense was shredding the Ravens D thru the air all day. The Ravens are one the the worst D's in the NFL vs the pass. I'm not saying call under center 7 step drop longer range stuff. Quick hitters ball out - bang.

3. The Ravens are one of the best D's vs the run. Everybody in the stadium knew we were going to run it up the middle. Into the strength of their D. Lots of peeps talking about risk, we could have fumbled as well.

4. If you go back and watch that first snap in OT. 9 Ravens crash the LOS on that 1st play. Two guys in coverage, 2. J. Chase would have been wide open for a quick slant from that heavy close in set.

5. We went away from our strength - Burrow, Tee, Chase, the TE's the passing game and for what? To be safe? with a "risky" 50 yd FG?

Did you ever stop to think they weren't settling for position, they were trying to get closer while running it?
Did you ever stop to think if they did get closer and get to say the 30, ity wouldn't have mattered in the least because of the holder the kick would have still missed?

this is why you generall try on 3rd down in OT just in case.

But taking the ball out of burrows hands in this moment didnt make a ton of sense.

But cant change it now.

Spot on. While I don't agree with it personally, but if ZT was comfortable with kicking the field goal at that distance, then he should have kicked the field goal on 3rd down to hedge for the possibility of a bad snap.

Isn't that Brad Fritz, of thebengalsboard.com notoriety? Rumor has it the cavalry found him sleeping in a van, down by the river, and elected to keep him along as their mascot.

Everyone keeps saying they took the ball out of burrow's hands, but Joe was the one who checked out of a pass play.

The comments are full of people claiming there was no audible by Joe even on the All 22 footage.

I’m not ready to go that far yet, but it’s weird people can’t find a clip of Joe calling the audible.

Overthinking and worried about the what-if passing the ball.
What if Burrow gets a sack and they get out of FG range?
What if the Bengals turn the ball over either with an INT or FF?

I'm confident Taylor and crew felt good with McPherson being able to hit 53 yards with his leg.
I don't think they accounted the possibility the snap/hold could go bad.

If that’s the case, why not kick it on third down? That gives you a buffer in the case of a bad snap.

Even stranger is that people hold onto one play in which he audibled to a run, when the other two plays were designed to run into the teeth of the defense. I don't like toss plays but that beats not getting more than 3 yards to the side of the center.

RFaulk34 describes it in the Paul Dehner thread on this site:

"2nd down. Starts in shotgun. Walks up to the line and calls something out. Goes back in shotgun and hands off.

They must have started the film after he was back in shotgun in the condensed version because it's clear as day in the full version."

Caesar also noted: "Yep, just rewatched the full version.  The condensed didn't show the TO prior either. Definitely an audible. "

Thanks. Rfaulk is the man. Joe
