I thought it was good to see lou with an edge tonight, he called alot and I mean alot of press coverage tonight..I really didn't have much to complain about from lou's gameplan tonight I thought he actually did a great job of calling plays that emphasized run fits and the players made good on staying in their run fits for the most part..
I have been the biggest lou defender on the message board and I've recently been extremely critical of lou but for tonight I gotta give credit where credits due good job lou the defense was lights out tonight..

The bengals gave up 24 first downs today. Sure, the points don’t reflect it, but if the giants have a decent QB and any real playmakers, they get more than 7 points. They still have a problem of getting in good down and distance situation and then getting off the field.
FWIW, 24 is the second most they have given up on the year. 30 to the ravens and 24 also to commanders.
Elated with the win, but too many first downs.

7 total points allowed, versus a Giants team that is actually good on OL and DL. I'll take the W and withhold the criticism.
Volson is meh, but I like him, and he has far exceeded my expectations

Giants had lousy starting position every drive thanks to Rehkow and gunner Tycen Anderson. So, the 24 first downs and long drives were mitigated.

I’ll take the win too. It’s constructive criticism.
That was the same amount, most on the year, of first downs that the giants had when they hung 29, and beat, the Seahawks.

I do agree with you, but I'll also say I'll rather have a defence that gives up yards and not points, rather than gives up both!
Great to see us only give up 7 points on the road in Prime Time. But think we'll be aware we've got to see more from the defence on a consistent basis for it to really matter. Very happy with only giving 7 points up though, the Ravens were converting long drives into TDs for fun last week.

Giants went for it, on 4th down, 5 times. They were successful 3 times. And some of these were even in their own territory where longer drives resulted afterward. That probably jacked up some of the 1st down statistics to a degree.

They converted multiple 3rd/4th and very shorts (not to mention a couple big big stops by Cinci.) which is hard for even really good defensive teams and you also have a really good running QB that present lots of problems with his legs. I could care less, and Lou couldn't either, how many first downs they converted.
Had Chase not dropped a big 3rd down conversion in the 2nd quarter inside the NY 40 and Moss not fumbled Cinci. deep in NY territory they would have had a bigger lead and they would have forced NY and Jones out of their MO and comfort zone.
Hell of a W against an excellent defense and a team that was coming off 2 straight road wins.

Yes, good for Lou.
My posting theme of today will be that I enjoyed watching a defense only allow 7 points.

First time since 2019 the Bengals have held a team to 7 points or less.

I agree Sunset. Lou's Defense even at it's best gave up a ton of yards between the 20's. They bent but didn't break. They've broke these last couple years granted.

I saw that mentioned at the end of the broadcast. It snapped a 75 game streak of giving up more than 7.

First game this season the entire D line was healthy as well. I thought they played a hell of a game. BJ was playing like a.man possessed.

Having a full DL for the first time this season showed. But the biggest difference was tackling. While there were still a couple of misses it was FAR better than the missed tackle avalanches we saw in the last few games. And it made a huge difference.
They still have to work on reacting to the play faster in the secondary and they have to figure out the issue with second down but this is a good start on the road back to respectability.

I'm glad the D played well, but at the same time, I expected the Giant's offense to struggle. Malik Nabers is a bad, bad man and they missed him a lot.

I just heard they played nearly 72 snaps compared to Giants D playing 50 or so. It'll be hard for them to keep this up if the Offense struggles.

They weren't great. But much improved from what we've seen. I observed a more focused defense which stayed around the ball for the most part and the tackling seemed much improved also (through beer goggles).

Same way I am after this game, that is a good Giants Offense and Daniel Jones is really hard to bring down ala Josh Allen.
The Defense played well, Lou did a good job on the gameplan as the OP said and the players executed well. Need to get off the field
on 3rd downs better, but hey this is a good start to getting this Defense back to where it should be, mid pack.

Giants suck, but the effort was good, regardless. They still have stuff that needs improvement, but what squad doesn't? Give them their flowers. Something to build off of for the weeks going forward. Allowing only seven points wins games 999 out of 1000. Let the other tems get all the yards and 1st downs they want, as long as no points occur, that's a good thing.
