So when can the receiver block on those kinds of plays?  I was, come on Yoshi, you gotta block better, but wasn't sure if he had to wait till Ja'Marr caught the ball or not. Hobbs played it pretty damn good.

There were 2 defensive series, that was the Mike Hilton Show! He definitely got the message this week

Maybe I misread it
Romo “ so impressed with Zac ...1 of the best in the NFL… they are just fundamentally sound. Taylor the best winning % in the Playoffs of current coaches. Joe Burrow” Zac is the best head coach in the NFL & that gives me a lot of confidence." Taylor led the Bengals to their first playoff win since 1990, ending the longest active drought in the four major North American sports, en and appeared in Super Bowl LVI, the first since 1988.

I watched that stupid play multiple times. Irwin (I think) was lined up inside of Yoshi and instead of turning towards the defender he just jets upfield. That left a huge hole which no one could have blocked. I'm not sure what Yoshi could do there as if he shifted inside before the snap you get an illegal motion flag. I think Burrow was upset both at the stupid play and at how it blew up so badly again because of a mechanical error on the execution.

We need to extend BJ Hill, Trey, and Hilton this off-season.

I thought Hudson played pretty poorly actually. I saw him drop at least one easy pass.

Yes. Jenkins has been good the whole time and we're seeing McKinnley Jackson starting to also emerge. If Mims, Jenkins and Jackson all turn out to be hits this is a pretty good draft.

It appeared the play design was for get the CB to move w/ Yoshi; as you can get his first step is to the sideline, but when he saw the CB making a beeline to the spot, he was no longer in a position to block him.

I know that didn't answer your question but I assume the receiver can block anyone he wants as soon as the ball is snapped, but then again I've seen them flagged for setting picks (Ironic).

I think those guys could all be solid players, but not HUGELY impactful guys. I still think we need another big time impactful playmaker on defense.

I disagree. Jenkins is shaping into an impact player. Jackson has flashed impact but only time will tell. Mims is already impact by stabilizing RT.

He was a total liability in pass protection - remember the play Burrow was yelling about and some of the board thought it was Volson? Nope. He was yelling at Williams who literally ignored his blocking assignment and ran out on a route. The OL all did it correctly - Williams caused the entire miscue.
Williams has been with the team long enough. I felt like they should have let him go after last season he has shown very little since we drafted him. Another wasted pick.

I have seen the flag fly for setting the block to early, I believe. Hobbs diagnosed that play so fast that Yoshi couldn't react. Funny thing tho, they ran the same play next serious only to the opposite side and both defenders jumped it and Joe hit Gesicki for the long TD.

If memory serves me, they can block anytime within 1  yard of the LoS. Yoshi could have and should have made that block.

Yoshi is not making the strides that he should have either.

It depends.  What are we honestly expecting?  He's a 2nd year guy who was a 6th round pick.  As much as I bag on Yoshi, he's about what you'd expect for a player drafted where he was, arguably a little better due to his red zone play.  But he's a back half of the roster guy who just shouldn't be seeing significant snap share, let alone starting.

You want to think about something scary, going into next year, Burrow, Chase, Mims, and Burton are going to be the only Day 1 or 2 picks on offense that were drafted by us on the roster.  That's gross neglect, especially when you consider that it isn't like the D is stacked with a bunch of young studs on rookie deals.
