Small Accomplishment - Mike Gesicki
#1
Gesicki has officially passed CJ Uzomah for the most receiving yards by a Bengals TE in a season (497 vs 493) since Eifert's All-Star 2015 season where he put up 615.
While that feels not that long ago, that was 9 seasons ago.

Gesicki is well on his way to passing 500 yards and could potentially pass 600 by season's end.

He's been a solid FA signing, especially for the price.
Zac Taylor 2019-2020: 6 total wins
Zac Taylor 2021-2022: Double-digit wins each season, plus 5 postseason wins
Zac Taylor 2023: 9 wins despite losing Burrow half the season
Zac Taylor 2024: Started 1-4. If he can turn this into a playoff appearance, it will be impressive.

Agreed. The Eagles game confirmed his value. Splitting the two high safety alignment is easier said than done.

When called upon, Gesicki has performed admirably. He was recently quoted as saying that he's "open to coming back" if the team offers him a deal. Currently, he's the 3rd best receiving option that this team has, might as well keep a good thing going.

I'd bring him back on an affordable deal.

He's never going to get a ton of targets or catches, mainly because of Higgins/Chase, but when hes needed hes stepped up...especially when Higgins was out.

45 catches, 497 yards, 11 yards per target with 3 games to go. He's having a nice season, especially with limited targets.

Trying to find any bright spots in a down year brah.

Gesicki has been the best receiving TE the Bengals have had production-wise since Eifert.

I assume by your comment you may not agree?

Also, pointing out a stat isn't "cherry picking."
How is pointing out a factual thing a problem?

Here's another one - Gesicki is 13th among TEs in receiving yards.
For someone only making $2.5 mill, that's pretty good.

What's your problem with Gesicki?

With the two high looks Burrow is getting, Gesicki is the perfect solution. If he could put on 10-15lbs and improve his blocking, he is a top-5 TE in the league.

I had looked at the Philly game as a barometer of his value. He had more yards against KC and LV, but his Philly performance was the clincher for me.

Would love to have him back for a few more years 2- or 3-year contract. If so, I think he can give us that Boyd production we lost with more targets.

The Cherry picked stat comment is weird. Geisecki is on pace for 603 yards this season. Assuming he hits that, it's only 60 less yards then Tyler Boyd had last season. When people kept asking "Who will fill Tyler Boyd's role?!" it turns out it was Gesecki.

I don't think there are any illusions that he is elite, but it's obvious this team is needs to figure out a 3rd option still (assuming Tee is back) and he gives them a serviceable one. The guy is sitting 13th in the league right now for TE receiving yards but 6th in yards per reception as it pertains to the folks ahead of him. He hasn't actually had that many targets relative to the group in front of him ranking 11th in receptions out of that group, funny enough having basically the exact same season as Kyle Pitts right now.

Guys he has more receiving yards than by the way....

Pat Friermuth
Cole Kmet
David NJoku
Dalton Schultz
Dallas Goedert

That list alone has some really well paid TE's on it. He is worth every penny we paid him this season and we would be smart to bring him back in on a similarly cap friendly deal to keep an option in the passing game.

He doesn't, though. He's done a decent job at being a receiver, but he doesn't really fill the same role as Boyd did in the offense. He doesn't block as much and he doesn't work the short-medium center as much either. They do different things and work different parts of the field.

Probably our best FA signing of the season, way ahead of Geno Stone, Sheldon Rankins and Zack Moss. He's been very average, but considering how bad our other FA signings are playing (you can make a case for Geno Stone and if you're willing to ignore the first 12 weeks of the season), he should be considered one of the few bright spots of this team this season.

I'd like to see him back for at least a couple of seasons.

I don't think when people were saying who would fill Boyd's role were specifically talking about the exact way he was used, just who would be the 3rd option and would they be close to his production.

Gesicki has been that guy rather than Iosivas.

Iosivas is really producing like the TEs have the past few years (350-450 yards) as the 4th option.

Is Iosivas good enough to stay the 4th option in the offense or should the Bengals instead look to push him to WR4/5?

Yeah, I can think of several no excuse drops that would probably add up to another hundred yards. For the old timers - Dan Ross. Now there was a tight end to love.

Yes

I wonder if between him and All we might be ok at TE next season?
