Duffner and Cioffi fired?

Hilton is a beast in a small frame. I remember when Hilton got here from Pittsburgh and Bell got here the first time. They brought winning attitudes with them and we heard of things like "putting money in the jar for missed tackles, poor plays etc." as voted on by their fellow DB's.  We haven't heard of any of that stuff for two years now. Did it fall by the wayside?

Well as he is under contract for the next two years I believe, he'll be here.

Indeed, I'd expect an extension or another 3-4 years.

You know in todays world of sports contract don’t matter. Trey could easily refuse to play unless he gets an extension or a raise. It’s already being mentioned.

Hilton is a one trick pony he is not good at covering the pass so he damn well better be good at tackling.

Hilton learned to tackle from the Steelers long before he became a Bengal.

Hilton is a great run defender and he used to be OK in coverage but is now a liability when asked to cover a WR.
New D coordinator needs to get CTB back to his 2023 level of play and continue to develop Turner, Hall and Newton. They have the ability they just need to somehow get it out of them.

I know they need DL help but I would love for them to take one of the 2 stud safeties in the first round. Starks would be a dream pick for me. Hamilton has helped Baltimore turn their D around. Bell is old and Stone isnt that guy.

Still can’t believe that NFL players need to be coached how to tackle…

Treys a unique personality. I’d half expect him to retire in the middle of his next contract.

Yes love it! The rest of the team I cringe watching one player after another cringe with missed tackles. The extra yards players got against us due to missed tackles is embarrassing.

Whats more frustrating is watching the playoffs and miss watching our explosive offense and Burrow in his playoff mindset.  This defense needs a complete makeover. I hope they get it right. Theres no salary cap with coaching so the FO better find a great fit and not count pennies.

If he was about 3 inches taller and 25lbs heavier he would probably be a multi-time All-Pro SS. Kind of a shame.

You know in todays sports, holding out is extremely rare, the player has almost zero leverage and if they don't play they don't get paid.  Don't be a hysterical fan.

Holding out through regular season games is rare because teams pay the players...

-Trent Williams, Brandon Aiyuk, Jordan Love, and CeeDee Lamb all were holding out and didn't practice until they got paid. (Chase is the outlier.)
-Haasan Reddick held out and didn't play the first 7 weeks until he got close-ish to the point where if he held out anymore it would cut into his year of service.
-Davante Adams was too "unhealthy" to play for the Raiders for 3 weeks until he magically healed 100% once being traded.

That was all just this year. The idea that they have almost zero leverage is kind of silly because if they're a great player you're going to be missing them, and while you're missing them they're a distraction. Plus there's legitimate weight to the public media shaming an owner gets if it's a player that clearly should be paid and they don't. Hendrickson has 1 year left of being underpaid and has back-to-back 17.5 sack seasons and is coming off an All-Pro season. Heading into his age 31 season, if he doesn't try to get his final payday now he never will.

If you want All-Pro players, you need to pay them.

the elephant in room however is the piss poor tiny scouting dept and Tobin evaluating college and FA talent .
Without having that its like playing with one arm tied behind your back every yr. Will they finally modernize? Im hoping that whomever the new D guy is, he demands some improvements there

Really has nothing to do with what I posted, but ok.....

If anything, they have actually done a pretty good job at getting their younger talent up to speed, whereas the DL and LB coaches have had fresh talent on their hands for years and failed to develop any of them.

(01-12-2025, 05:09 PM)SunsetBengal Wrote: That isn't their fault, Lou was the one calling the defensive plays each down. As positional coaches, their job is simply to teach the players how to execute the coverage called on any given down. It's not their fault if Lou was calling for soft cushion, perhaps he was attempting to reduce the number of home run balls given up?

(01-12-2025, 06:04 PM)SunsetBengal Wrote: Again, was that their call, or Lou's?

What exactly do you think DB coaches do?

Given that it was said that the reason for the late season improvement in the secondary was because they "simplified" things, I'm going to put my guess on making things more complicated than they need to be?

Volson is meh, but I like him, and he has far exceeded my expectations

Mrs Trey has been working through her internship for her Dr of Pharmacy degree. That kept Trey tied to Cincinnati, at least it did if he wanted to live with his wife. However that should be ending before summer so he will have more options

All hopes turn to next year
