What is one player you most want to hear announced as the Bengals 1st round pick tomorrow, and who are you most NOT wanting to hear, among positions that are realistic?
For me:
- Most wanting to hear - Kelvin Banks (now that I hear it's actually a possibility) or Walter Nolen.
- Not wanting to hear - Shemar Stewart or Mykel Williams
Zac Taylor 2019-2020: 6 total wins
Zac Taylor 2021-2022: Double-digit wins each season, plus 5 postseason wins
Zac Taylor 2023: 9 wins despite losing Burrow half the season
Zac Taylor 2024: Started 1-4. Ended 9-8 but barely missed playoffs
Changes needed to do better in Sept/Oct moving forward.

I'll go with K. Banks. I don't think it'll happen.
I don't want to hear Green.

I'll be happy with anyone not named Stewart, so bring 'em on
May I ask why everyone is against Mykel Williams? Have I been living under a rock and have missed something obvious throughout this process? EVERYONE hates him lol

Don’t want to hear stewart or booker. Leery of green, only because i know so few details about the charges. If the brass is comfortable I can see him being the pick. Leery of Johnson due to medicals.
Ok with just about any one else.

It’s one day away, and I honestly have no idea who I want in the first round. I honestly can’t recall a draft where I’m really not a fan of any of the prospects that are likely to be Bengals in the first. While it’s not a “name”, I would be most excited to hear a trade down.
If we stay at 17, I’d be good with hearing Emmanwori, Campbell, Harmon, Scourton, Barron or even Warren or Egbuka(even though we absolutely don’t need a WR in round 1). I’d also be estatic if we someone at the top falls.
I have a whole list of guys that I don’t like for a variety of reasons.
I don’t want Walter Nolan, James Pierce or Mike Green for character reasons. Don’t get me wrong, I think they can play and like their tape ( Pierce was initially one of my favorites but after watching some interviews and hearing about rumored character concerns I’d pass on 17) I just don’t trust any of these guys but if I were to place a bet, I believe one of these 3 will be Bengals.
I also don’t want Shemar Stewart or Mykel Williams. Both scare me for different reasons. I think Shemar has potential but that’s all he is and I don’t think the Bengals are the team that can develop him. Mykel just seems like a guy with ideal size but doesnt offer much outside of run stopping.

I hope Walter Nolen is at #17 and I hope the Bengals don't take Will Johnson.

Any of Emmanwori, Campbell, Harmon would be fine by me.
Like I've said in an earlier post, I've conditioned myself that Stewart will be the pick and that will send the cat flying!

I could never get to a final grade on Mykel Williams. I cut him some slack for being injured, but then his post seasons workouts were only somewhat average.

Williams is like Stewart - High ceiling, low floor. Gives me PTSD of Myles Murphy.
Murphy is going into year 3 having provided very little.
I want a 1st round pick that can make a good impact by start of Year 2 at the latest, if not by midway through rookie year.
No more projects please.

Personally, I don't want to see any of the character risk guys at 17, so no Green, Pearce, or Nolen. Those positions are too loaded in this class to take such a gamble in the 1st, anyways.
Of those we talked to that we have a realistic chance of taking, I'd be very happy with Warren, Loveland, or Johnson.

The problem with Mykel Williams is not necessarily the player...it is the history of the coaching staff and their inability to coaching up the player's talent. Hence, Murphy, Hill. As a franchise, the Bengals cannot afford another miss.

The thing is Murphy was quite productive in college, he should have been ready to go. Now heading into year three and the offseason fluff stuff all sounds like groundhog day from last year at this time.
Volson is meh, but I like him, and he has far exceeded my expectations

Yea this is mostly it.
The team has typically failed developing raw talent.
Not only that, this isn't a team knowingly in the rebuild phase where it's perfectly acceptable for their talent to take time to develop since they aren't expected to compete as a contender. Bengals have their core in their prime and it's time to win now.
Each season not getting at least back to the AFCCG is seen as a disappointment and getting closer and closer for that window to close. At least that's my view.

Want: Nolen- He'll stop the run, get pressure on the quarterback, and call for double teams from the tackle position, leaving the ends single blocked and opening up blitzing lanes. He'll be our new Geno.
Don't want: Hard to pick on here. I probably wouldn't like Campbell just because he might be able to rush the passer but his injury concern worries me, especially when we have other areas of need.

I echo these sentiments exactly except I don't have a cat. My order of preference would be Campbell 1a and Emmwanwori 1b and then Harmon 2. I want a defensive player that can do multiple things. I believe there are many many high quality DE in this draft that can be had in rounds 2-3 easily. There is definitely a shortage of game changing LB and S talent. My slight preference for Campbell is because I believe the Bengals LB core needs an influx of speed desperately...not to mention the cutting of Pratt.
I too want to stay away from character risk guys like Whatever said (Green, Pearce, and Nolen).

Whoa...we gonna need to fight?!
Seriously though, is it because of the player or just not wanting a TE because Gesicki is signed for 3 more years and team has other needs?

I don't want to trade down if a really good player is there. I don't want to hear that unless we're going to end up with a quality - not decent - interior OL or DL
Names I'd be happy to hear:
Banks
Campbell (Either one)
Nolan
Harmon
Grant
Don't want to hear Stewart
Want to hear Ratledge, D. Jackson, Zabel or L. Jackson in the 2nd
