The current cap situation (25 million and counting)
#1
The Bengals currently have around 25 million in cap space. If they were to cut Germain Pratt, they'd free up an additional 5 million putting them at around 30 million in cap space. That would put us NEAR the top 10 in 2025 cap space.

So, my question is this...what are they going to do with it?

There are basically three options, they could use it to continue to sure up the roster (sign a vet guard like Scherff), they could use it on an extension/raise (Trey), or they could roll it over to next year.

I'd find it very disheartening if they were to roll a bunch of cap space over in a Super Bowl window with so many holes on their roster, especially going into the draft. They could have used that money to fill holes which would have freed up the draft that much more.

Either way, let's hope they continue adding to the roster. There are still FAs out there that could really help this team.

I don't know why, but I just have this feeling that Trey will get his extension before the season but it'll probably come the week before the start of the regular season. It may not be as much as he wants, but i'm feel confident it still gets done.

As a fan of Trey, I hope they give him an extension, but base it on the 2025 final year (don't tear up final year). I think Trey and his agent need to be realistic, he is not nor should he expect to get 30 million dollars (+14 million) in 2025.

I also hope they sign a vet safety or vet guard, if they do not extend Trey both.

Blackman would be my safety choice. Risner or a healthy Hernandez my guard choice. The Bengals may have to wait until October for Henrandez due to his recovery from knee surgery.

As for rollover, Bengals will have a lot of players on current roster not signed in 2026. We only have 2 DE's Murphy and I assume Steward signed. If Ossai or another DE has a breakout year, it will be costly to resign them. If we don't get an extension for Trey, it will be close to 24 million to tag him in 2026.

I undrstand the need to better the roster, I also see theTeam's need to look at future cap and decide how to spend/rollover the 2025 cap.

I would be happy if they extended Trey but I don’t see it happening. I don’t know that they would have drafted Stewart if they thought Trey was staying longer than this year. Hope I am wrong.

I would love a vet guard or a safety but I don’t think they will add anyone and it would be a shame to roll over $.

I hope they either extend Dax Hill or at least pick up his 5th year option. I know board opinion on him is mixed but he might be our best player in the secondary. And we need help in the secondary.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I thought they always roll over money, so that's a given.  They probably give Trey a significant raise this year and give a mostly or fully guaranteed deal next year and little guarantee of a 3rd year.  That's where our money is sitting IMO.  Hopefully they earmark say 4M for one of the guards of safeties.

I believe they rolled over 10 million last year.

Everyone that is "smart" about that cap will tell you that is a sure fire way NOT to handle it. You want to borrow as much or if not more against the cap today as possible.

So we picked up 1.5 million for the Moss pay cut, but all of it in 2025 is now guaranteed
