Dehner was on NFL radio earlier with Ed McCraffrey talkin Bengals. McCaffrey asked Dehner about any UFDA's that were surprising in camp. Denhner mentioned DT Howard Cross, and McCraffrey then said that's who he was wondering about because his father was his teammate. Anyway, Dehner said Cross has done well enough he's getting reps with the 2nd team. I'd say he'll never make the roster at DT, but Practice Squad seems reasonable. He played at Notre Dame last year for Golden, who wanted him. Anyone see him in camp???

Haven't seen Cross at camp, I don't even know his number but watched him at Notre Dame and was really surprised he went undrafted.
Hopefully this is not a knock on Kris Jenkins or McKinnley Jackson. Hopefully all of them are playing really well.

If someone unexpectedly gets cut from the Dline it would be Murphy. Not Jackson or Jenkins!

That 5th DT/6th DE spot is wide open. Wouldn't be suprised if Cross wins the Job!

With BJ out/limited Jenkins has been taking a lot of snaps next to Slaton, which opens up the DT slot nect to Jackson with the 2s.
I'd have assumed it would be Bryan, but if Cross is indeed 3T#3 behind Hill & Jenkins, then PA is VERY likely, and a slot on the 53 possible.

I thought Cross was a DT? Heard Murphy has looked good and saw some highlights showing the same.
No way Murphy gets cut. Also like Cedric Johnson.

At the very least we should have some good depth on the DL this season.

Ah, thanks Ike. I thought Cross was a DT, J24 confused me. Kris Jenkins I hope makes the jump as a 3-tech, he is strong and has long arms
for a DT to keep OL off his chest. Getting starting experience next to Slaton could really help. Expecting Cross to be on the PS when things are
all said and done.

Their 10 spots on the Dline; that spot is between the 6th Defensive End or a 5th DT. So yes Cross is competing for a job with a Defensive End.

This was Dehner's comments a couple of days ago in The Athletic
Quote:Howard Cross, DT, Notre Dame
Analysis: If there were a player to expect Golden to feature, it would be Cross, an All-American starter who played 65 games at Notre Dame. There are roster spots open in the back of the defensive tackle room and the reps suggest Cross is in position for one. He’s enjoyed a workload with the second team and illustrated a polish you would expect from an older rookie familiar with the defensive system.

Okay, I getcha. We usually only keep 4 DT's so that makes some sense. Cam Sample can play both End and DT as well along
with a couple other Ends on 3rd and longs in Ossai and Stewart. Expecting Ossai to have a big year in this role on 3rd and longs.

I like hearing this, good stuff Pally. Cross is Golden's guy so he fits the Defense already.

Cross missed 3 or 4 games in 2024 so may be why he was not drafted. I think Bryan may be the cut or at a minimum Cross makes the PS.
It wlll be intersting to see how the DT's do tonight
Please use 2025 free agency to fix the trenches, not the draft!!!!!!!!

Gee, thanks Pally. I didn't have a link so I figured some mod would be along soon to call me a liar.

Sled, we'd never call you a liar. We might say that you're full of shit sometimes, but never an outright liar.
Volson is meh, but I like him, and he has far exceeded my expectations

If you watch Shemar Stewart's tackle for loss last night, Howard Cross is actually the guy that blew that play up.

What is Cross's number again?
I liked what I saw from McKinnley Jackson, he had 2 TFL's and had at least one pressure constantly pushing his guy back. Don't know
why he was playing with the 3's and 4's. He should be playing with the 2's IMO.
He did have the penalty roughing the LS though that lead to the last TD though, so up and down. I didn't see the penalty either so it
could of been a bad call.
