I am still miffed Risneris available because he is healthy and we are not alone with a need for a quality guard.
You should be rooting for him. :)

The Bengals have blown this RG situation. Risner might be the only half decent RG option available right now. Hernandez re-signed with the Cardinals and if Scherff retired he would be off the table. Not a good situation for the Bengals offense this year at the RG position.

We've seen Ford play RG before, and he's atrocious. He's (far) better on the left side, either at LT or especially LG.
Patrick hasn't played much RG in 5 years, and perhaps there's a reason for that.
Volson hasn't been good his entire 3 year career, so there's no reason to think he'll be fine at RG.
We haven't really seen Matt Lee or Jalen Rivers at RG (or at least I haven't).
Clock's ticking for them to figure it out. 3 weeks from Sunday is Game 1.
What are you talking about? When Volson was benched and Ford put in, it lasted one week. Ford is just not good at Guard. He did play well in relief of Brown at LT.

Would Lee or McLaughlin be a worse blocker at center than Patrick or Ford at RG.

At the Center position, it's so much more than simply "the blocking". It's also the thousands of mistake free snaps, most of which are in shotgun formation, it's reading the defense and making the correct calls to the Guards on what responsibilities to cover.

That's somebody writing an article claiming he retired this summer. I havent seen any reports stating he has actually retired not that he couldnt decide to retire at any moment. Even though Scherff is older than Risner, I would rather have Scherff at RG over Risner. Bengals should be on the phone with Scherff's agent to gauge his interest. The Bengals would be a very attractive option for Scherff if he wanted to go another season.

It lasted one week because Brown got hurt and he had to play tackle

Volson did not come back to start at LG because he was better than Cody. He came back because we needed Ford elsewhere on the line. If Mims and Brown would have stayed healthy Ford would have stayed at LG

If you are not playing your best 5 O linemen then you are not going to win a Superbowl.
Burrow has been in the NFL long enough that he does not need a center OC or head coach to hold his hand.
The other centers are capable of doing the job do not sell them short and act like they can not snap it to a guy in shotgun that's laughable.
If Burrow does need Ted to read defenses for him which is also laughable then Ted can do it from RG.
I really do not see the coaches moving the guys into the right spots since they played Volson as a second string center which is our deepest spot on the O-line. It is really getting funny how clueless they are when it comes to putting guys in the right spot to excel on offense or defense.

As desperate as teams are for lineman...why haven't these two franchise savers even gotten a glance from ANY team in the NFL? Risner was supposedly close to signing with somebody months ago...then crickets.
Either they aren't healthy or they don't want to play

It could be these other teams are like the Bengals and think their O-lines are good enough and dont want to spend more money on older guards. Scherff played all 17 games last year. In fact he has played all 17 games every year since he signed with Jacksonville in 2022. Scherff at his age isnt going to sign with team unless they are a contender and I would think most of the top teams would already have a good idea about their RG position unlike the Bengals.

I know Risner said earlier in the offseason he would like to play for the Bengals but im sure he would play for anyone probably. Its a good question why they haven't signed but we are at a spot im not sure it matters. If healthy they are better than we have most likely. Rolling Patrick out there week 1 after what we've been seeing is risking the health of our QB.

Thats the problem with the wait and see approach with the Bengals unless an injury comes there fine waiting the whole season before making an addition. I thought I did see Volson played RG in college? Not sure he's an exciting option but he may actually be better than what Patrick looks to be. I guess Patrick will have Monday night but I'm worried.

If someone’s heart isn’t into playing….they are phoning it in.
But let’s get real, if they haven’t planned on playing they aren’t even close to being physically ready to even get on a practice field

Seems like he plans on playing somewhere this year. Says he can play center, tackle or guard. Get this guy in the building.

I think you are correct in most cases. However, Risner has a history of sgning as a FA late in the process so he must have a regimen to mke sure he is ready.
