3 moves that makes us a major SB contender
#1
Paul Dehner in the Athletic nails it. Others have promoted Simmons but Strange is new to me.
The Move.
Trade for New England’s Cole Strange.
Strange was a first-round pick in 2022. He’s only 27. The Patriots didn’t pick up his fifth-year option and he’s been running with the second team under new head coach Mike Vrabel. The reason Strange stands out is that his position coach last year is current Bengals offensive line coach Scott Peters. Familiarity with his strike system would fast-track the integration, and at the very least, he could serve as Patrick’s insurance if his season goes sideways. At best, he could arrive, integrate and impress as a change-of-scenery candidate to bring an average level of play to a spot that has been a major problem since Alex Cappa started falling off in 2023.
The Bengals would have to be willing to give up a Day 3 pick, and we know how tough that has been. However, if they could match a Patriots need at linebacker, tight end or another spot that could be a position of relative strength for Cincinnati, it could limit the pick value. Considering the state of the line, the draft pick would be well spent.

The move: Sign free agent Justin Simmons.
Yes, he’s still out there. A name discussed all the way back during free agency in March is still on the market. Simmons played 1,017 snaps for Atlanta last season and was far from the prime version of himself. He turns 32 in November. Signing him likely comes from a belief that he would start ahead of Stone and/or share special teams duties, of which he’s rarely participated in the last five years.
The Move: Sign Trey

Me…I’d send Burton and 6th rounder for Strange
Romo “ so impressed with Zac ...1 of the best in the NFL… they are just fundamentally sound. Taylor the best winning % in the Playoffs of current coaches. Joe Burrow” Zac is the best head coach in the NFL & that gives me a lot of confidence." Taylor led the Bengals to their first playoff win since 1990, ending the longest active drought in the four major North American sports, en and appeared in Super Bowl LVI, the first since 1988.

If burton could play in the preseason and shine im sure someone might want to trade for him.
Same with murphy.

Those two are certainly good trade bait for offensive line or free safety help.

Burton will only have one more opportunity to shine in the preseason because he isn't playing against Washington.

Quote:Bengals coach Zac Taylor said Saturday that Burton (undisclosed) is ruled out for Monday's preseason game against the Commanders, Paul Dehner Jr. of The Athletic reports.

Not surprising though since it seems he has been dealing with an injury.

Didn't Simmons kind of fall off a cliff last year?

I don't know.  His numbers don't seem too far off from his 2023 season. It seems solo tackles were the largest decline which might indicate more than stat sheets?

All for those moves. Makes sense with Strange as he is well known by Scott Peters our OL coach.

We will see how Tycen Anderson plays this Monday night. Simmons didn't look the same to me last year, but Stone sucked for most of the year.

We are always looking for the next silver bullett. My hope is our players can step up and be the silver bullet. I see one major need at that is RG whiich signing Risner would solidify and push Patrick to a capable back up.

Stone 2nd half was actually decent, so we will see how he does it Golden's system, I don't see a broken down Simmons as an upgrade.

Trey, yeah we need him signed to an extension, but we still have him under contract. I am not sure he wants to start losing 950,000 a game week 1. We may find out.

Please use 2025 free agency to fix the trenches, not the draft!!!!!!!!

I like the idea of trading for a recent first round guard who played under the Bengals O line coach. Would hate to trade Burton at this point because I still think he could end up being really good.
What about including Hudson in a trade? He has looked good but still won’t see alot of targets as there are 2 “receiving” TEs ahead of him.

I don't get the Strange stuff.

He played all his snaps last year at C. He had good pass block numbers but was 63/64 vs the run. NE's line was terrible. And we'd have to give up assets.

Sign Trey & Risner.

I dont get it either.  People think we should give up picks or players for an average guard when Risner would give you the same but you wouldnt need to give up anything to sign?   That makes no sense.  Some of these guys still live off their draft hype vs actual NFL production.

His PFF grade wasnt very good last year plus Atlanta fans think he was mediocre at best.  In 3 months Simmons will be 32 years old so his best days may be behind him.  I think I would just roll with what we have unless they play like utter trash these next few weeks.  If Simmons is still available at that point and could be signed cheap then maybe you take a look at him.

If we traded Burton for Strange the salary savings would pay for Risner too. Strange knows Peters system and the transition quicker.

Were desperate for Offensive line up. Honestly there probably isn't a move that we can make  right now that would be considered season saving. (Unless something unforseen happens)

Jessie Bates left the Bengals and that makes me sad!

3 moves:

1) Get owners with the ability or willingness to spend, that value ALL positions, and that are willing to guarantee $$ beyond year 1.

2) A real scouting department.

3) A real GM.
