The reduced the fine on Adam Jones from 28,940 to 12,500, which is basically just the NFL admitting that the refs ****ed up:
Quote:By reducing Jones' fine by to less than half of the original number, that's a pretty good way of saying, "we screwed this up but can't completely admit that, so we'll just reduce your fine by a significant margin."
There's really no question the refs got this call wrong by not flagging Joey Porter for being on the field for Jones to argue with in the first place. This should have been an offsetting type of scenario or have no flag be thrown at all.
But alas, we're left to wonder what would have been had the right call(s) been made.
You don't reduce a fine by that much unless you know you screwed a team out of its glory.
Reducing it by that much is basically saying "that's our fault, but we can't take it away completely or we'll look even dumber."
The pain of being a Bengals fan.

Most fines are on a graduating scale.
Maybe someone messed it up.
At least we know the NFL was 100% correct on Burfict since they upheld his suspension.

They can't reduce it because of the message it would send considering that they're preaching safety, but Burfict did everything in his power, short of just letting Brown catch it without touching him, to avoid any contact to his head.

Coming from a Cincinnati reporter. Shocking.

So does this send a message that it's okay to knock over a ref? And for no reason to boot. Porter was actually speaking nicely to and praising Burfict.

He still shouldn't have been on the field. Intent, actual words spoken - all irrelevant.

Damn, the Bengals have really raked in a huge morale victory with this one. Hate to say it, but I don't think the Steelers could pull off such a decivise morale victory in March like this.

Do you feel bad that you make all Steelers fans look like bitches by exaggerating like a 14-year-old school girl?
He definitely didn't knock the ref over. He actually only pretty much ended up nudging him while going for Porter:
And Porter looked concerned? Hell no...... Porter had a smirk on his face like "yeah, this is going great."
And why wouldn't he be doing his best to run around those players or at least walking by Brown's side if he was THAT concerned?!

Brad, watch the Burfict interview. He said what Porter was saying...
You know what?
Never mind.
Drive yourselves crazy and froth at the mouth for the next six months about it. It'll be fun to watch.

shocking I know, if it was shazier that laid same hit on AJ ,would you be shocked if it was a Pittsburgh reporter saying the same? you know roles reversed

Burfict has a whole team to associate with, porters alway has and always will be a cheap shot specialist. now he and buttmunch or munchkin wtf ever his name and even tomlin (see Jacoby) are cheaters and all 3 are *****. :jk:actually not a joke.

neither should have Tomlin been couple years back, but it's Squeelers and the whole organization has a great big circle jerk with goodell

^^^^^^^ ^^^
how do we fans get a morale victory? the NFL MADE THE STATEMENT and yet you think we get some morale boost out of it. there was nothing moral about the Pittsburgh coaching staff in that game. shazier hit was 5x's worse than Taze and you damn well know it.
if you don't know it maybe you have no morals

The important thing to come out of all of this is that the bengals learned their lesson.

I was under the impression that the Bengals screwed themselves when they failed to stop Pittsburg on that drive prior to the penalties they committed.
Or when they failed to out score them by a larger margin the whole game.

Who cares? That was last season, and neither team won the Super Bowl, so both lost. Let's focus on this year and dominating the AFC North, again.
