I don't see the players agreeing to cut a pre-season game for another regular season game, unless something changes regarding revenue and contracts. I would like to see an 18-game season, with playing each division game a home and home and every other team in your conference once, but that probably won't happen. Or, you could rotate by playing 3 different divisions in-full (2 from your conference, 1 from the other conference).

I'm liking the concept of a 17 game season, with making the 4th preseason game an official game. Have 4 neutral sites, with each site hosting 4 games per year (one game per month Sept thru Dec).

Had this been the 90s, we would of been happy in hopes London kept mike brown and the bengals. Secondly for the 16 fans who wanted to watch them play on tv we could of seen it since it wouldn't of been blacked out

It's more about the additional time zone jumps than flight time.

You will put that all on Goodell?
The popularity of the game has nothing to do with it?
The fact the Bengals being a regular in the Playoffs has nothing to do with it?
Popularity of the players like AJ Green, Dalton, Atkins etc has nothing to do with it?
Inflation?
I would think a Commish that handled suspensions better and was not totally biased would do even better, don't you?

I think both teams should be counted as an 'away' game and play 8 home games.

I'm not a fan of us giving up a home game to do this.
But I am pleased that it is an NFC game, since those have the potential to mean less by seasons end if you happen to lose.
I would be livid if it were a division game, like the one they just forced a couple weeks ago.
Imagine having to play at Pittsburgh then playing them in London for our home game.
I'll take what we we have today, who cares if the redskins only show up nearly once a decade.

Already been explained why this is impossible.

Don't see how they could be equal when Seattle is probably 1500 miles farther away.
BTW the game would start at 6:30 AM in Seattle.

I put it on the overall popularity of the game, for which Goodell receives much of the praise. Listen, I personally think he is overly authoritarian, but from a business perspective it is hard to argue with his results. The entire league has improved that much, not just the Bengals (we are still near the bottom in overall worth). If I am a business man, which the owners are at the end of the day, then I love Roger Goodell. If I am a player, then I cannot stand Roger Goodell. Unfortunately, it is the owners who sign his contract.

Can't happen.

Sigh. This is mathematically impossible. You can't have two "away" teams playing each other as there would have to be a corresponding home vs. home teams playing each other.
To each his own... unless you belong to a political party...

Because each week, you have half the teams in the NFL traveling to away games. That happens 8 times a year. The other 8 weeks are games at home.
If you consider this a road game for the Bengals, that means they still have 8 home games this year.
Who would be the 8th opponent the Bengals play at home? You'd have to take a home game away from another team on their schedule to accomplish this. That means a different team (on the Bengals schedule) would only have 7 home games and 9 road games.
The math doesn't work. It's not just as simple as saying, "let's call them both road teams".

I think it is about time to expand the league.
Add 8 more teams (1 more team to each division.) 40 NFL teams.
(Ideally) Re-map/Re-Vamp the divisions to the correct geographic. (Or reasonable I.E. Geographically, why is a team from Dallas, Texas in a division that contains NFC East teams...) ( know rivalry reasons... )
Division games will now include 5 at home and 5 away. (10)
8 other games in the regular season 4 away and 4 home games but have a 20 week season...2 bye weeks for each team. (Players union would like that I bet! )
Realistically by the numbers we would have 9 home games and 9 away games, 2 bye weeks.
Playoffs will be restructured:
Sweet 16 brackets. 8 AFC, 8 NFC. No bye week for #1 seeds anymore.
(I.E.) AFC Divisional Bracketing:
Team #1-------
(Winner)
Team#8--------
Team#3--------
(Winner)
Team#5--------
Team #6-------
(Winner)
Team #4-------
Team#7--------
(winner)
Team#2--------
But not to get off too much from the original poster's thread, yes...I guess I feel bad for those mis-placed Redskins fans in Cincinnati dying to see a home game at PBS.

I've got a great idea. Why not have both teams in London play an away game. That way they both can still have 8 home games. The Bengals can play their 8th home game against an imaginary team!

Agreed, as long as we don't play the imaginary team in prime time.
