No.  This thread has absolutely nothing to do with Jeremy Hill.

2009...A fan favorite ever since draft day rookie Bernard Scott only had 29 carries through the first 9 weeks of the season.  But in week 10 Cedric Benson was out with an injury and Scott gained 119 rushing and 32 receiving.  He followed that up with an 87 yard rushing game the next week and for the next two years fans ranted at the team for not making him the full time starter.  But in 2011 when he had his career high in both carries and receptions fans finally realized he was not as good as they thought.  He averaged just 3.8 yards per carry and 2.9 per catch (not a typo).

2013...Vinnny Rey was making just his second start of the season in week 10 after taking over the injured (and much maligned) Rey Maualuga.  Rey had a game for the ages against AFCN rival Baltimore with 15 tackles, 3 sacks, and an interception.  He followed that up with a 12 tackle game the next week.  Again the fans ranted at the team for not making him a starter, but after seeing him play over half the snaps over the next three years many fans are claiming he is overpaid at just $3 million a year and needs to be released.

And now I give you............Rex Burkhead.  The greatest Bengal running back since Bernard Scott.

The Burkhead hype will be out of control.

What a dumb post. You could say the same thing about Chad Johnson, Rudi Johnson, TJ houshmandzadeh, etc, except those guys actually ended up being good.

not sure what Ndukwe and Rey playing well for a game in the past has to do with Rex.

All i've seen is the guy contribute more and more given his chance.  You can say its a limited sample to view from but that's the coaches fault not his.

He's consistently got better ypc than Jeremy Hill over the same period ( if you take Hill's performances against the league's worst team out his ypc has been truly awful) ..when they were running behind the same line.

Considering we were playing Baltimore and our line had Fisher at RT and Johnson at LG that was arguably the best running performance of the year - what's not to like?

Silly Bengal fans, what are you thinking? It's been a train wreck of a season, and you are excited about one of the few bright spots at the closure of it? What are you thinking? Do not get your hopes up for Rex, as he is just a one-hit wonder as Fred is trying to tell you.

That said it's a bit ironic when a certain someone likes to throw around terms like whining crybaby fans, but yet when fans are actually excited even for the briefest moment for Rex, they need to be brought down by that same person.

No I couldn't.  Chad, Rudi, and Housh did not earn a lot of love with just one or two big games.

They were all pretty unknown and not glamorous at the time they were drafted. They worked their way up and eventually broke through, just like what COULD happen with Rex.

I like Rex no doubt, but as pointed out it is a team effort. I suspect there will be a small bidding war for Rex in the off season and it'll depend on how the front office responds. They do have other needs in free agency to settle probably more important than the RB situation such as DreK, Zietler, Witt, etc..

If Dre leaves who will take his place? We really don't know what we have in our last #1 cb pick because he didn't play a single snap all season and its a position that really does take a few years to get really good at. Very few players just come right out of college and become shut down corners.. Dennard isn't the guy and Jones isn't getting any younger between now and next year..
The o-line went to hell with the Ogbuehi experiment so if Zeitler and Witt both leave we might as well just go ahead and draft an orthopedic surgeon for Andy.. There's still issues with Bodine although I doubt that they're ready to move on from him.
The D-line has it's issues with the need for someone to replace MJ..and of course there's always the issues at the LB positions..
They can't all be fixed in a few draft spots and the draft is always a crap shoot regardless of player or draft position ..

I just learned something.

I do not even remember this game at all, but in 2001 I was living in Tennessee and had no access to any message boards or Cincinnati local talk radio.  So I have no idea how the fans reacted.

In the 15th game of the season the 4-10 Bengals beat the 12-2 Steelers in a crazy overtime game.  The Bengals were down by 13 with just 3 minutes left in the game, but scored a td, recovered an onside kick and scored another td to force overtime (when the XP failed).  In those last two td drives in regulation and the game winning drive in OT rookie WR T J Housmandzadeh caught 5 passes for 55 yards.  For the game he had 9 for 98 which almost matched his total production in the other 15 games that year (12 for 130).  It would be three years before he would have another game with more than 60 receiving yards.

I don't care about Ndukwe's stare. I'm just happy for Rushasaurus Rex that he's finally getting a chance to show he's a good back in limited uses.

I don't think he'll ever be "the" guy, but he can — and has been — a productive part of a rotation. I'm not sure the point of trying to rain on the guy's parade. It's not like he's having Doug Martin money and production (a million dollars for every 50ish yards).

Let me step back and say that I was pleasantly surprised by how well Burkhead performed over the last 6 games.  He had 426 yards from scrimmage and averaged 4.5 yards per carry.  I would rather re-sign him than use a late round pick on another RB.

All I am talking about is the hype he will get over this offseason.  He did nothing before this year, but he already had a little fan club here who claimed he "made plays every time he got a chance".  They are going to go crazy over the next few months if it does not look like the Bengals are going to make him a starter.

Who could forget Saint Nick! I still think about that game every year when we play around Christmas.

I really can't figure out why Jeremy has been so bad, but gio was getting stuffed too so it's just not hill. Then Rex comes in and gets good ypc, I don't think he can be the guy to break long runs, but he's like a white rudi Johnson, he'll get you the good down and distance and first Downs. And also a good catching back. As for hill I noticed he usually gets tackled pretty hard for a big guy that he is, if he's not dancing, he's just sprinting into a brick wall, and he's been missing holes. He was one of my favorite players so I hate this for him.

Jeremy Hill to me looks done.  Sadly, we'll probably lose Rex to free agency because other organizations will see the same thing.

Agreed that Hill is garbage at this point. If we cut him before June 1, he will only be a $262,000 hit against the cap next year.i don't care where he was drafted or what he did as a rookie, we would be better off next year with Burkhead, Gio, and a TBD rookie. Heck, if we really need a bulldozing specialist for the goal line, we could always look at the quicker UDFA fullbacks.

Burkhead looked good, but 2 years ago many of us were pants-shittingly mad at the idea of Hill not getting like 50 carries per game.

If you look at hills rookie highlights, their all out of I formation. We run him out of shotgun way too often. He's not that type of back. He excells in I formation. They ran that for him at lsu also.

Hill is not that good, but at the same time you can not just replace him with any random RB.

Of the 42 RBs who had at least 100 carries last year Hill finished 8th in tds, 18th in yards, and 31st in yards per carry. If you could replace Hill with any random rookie draft pick then every team in the league would have a RB more productive than Hill, but the fact is SEVEN different NFL teams do not have a single RB with 100 carries who averaged as many yards per carry as Hill.
