Our Running Game has Been Bad for 3 Years+
#1
We aren't going to be a consistent winner until we can run the ball.

Hint: The issue isn't the RB's. We need a better Center for one.

Before people say Mixon is the answer...he rushed for 3.4 ypc. The line is obviously the answer.

It doesn't help that the Bengals really didn't have a certain thing they tried to focus on. Instead, they seemed to just try to get weapons without a good identity. Hopefully Lazor (or some other OC after the season) establishes the Bengals as either a pass-first team or run-first team and builds the offensive game plan around that identity.
Zac Taylor 2019-2020: 6 total wins
Zac Taylor 2021-2022: Double-digit wins each season, plus 5 postseason wins
Zac Taylor 2023: 9 wins despite losing Burrow half the season
Zac Taylor 2024: Started 1-4. If he can turn this into a playoff appearance, it will be impressive.

Sorry for Party Rocking!

So you think they were like 'We're bad at running the ball. Let's get rid of our 2 best offensive lineman!'

Sounds about right.

Maybe they weren't exactly our "best offensive linemen"?  Maybe they cost just a little too much for their production level? Maybe they were a little "long in the tooth"?

Hey - Why retain Pro Bowl players...they're expensive? We can let them go and get more Comp Picks!!!
We Have Cap Space!!! We Have Comp Picks Coming!!! And we're 0-3!!!

Wow. That's really bad...and likely a reason for not winning a playoff game.

Jim Anderson was the best running backs coach the Bengals will ever have.

The organization really misses him.

Oh my. I didn't know it was that bad. Even the past 6 years is horrid. Makes me think Andy Dalton is a better QB than he really is. I cant even imagine him with a good rushing attack

UNTIL we rattle mike browns cage and get him to see fans are not going to show up he will just keep things like they are.to me there is NO ONE on this staff worthy of being a HC.but yet the world knows he will promote someone here that is loyal to him.the fans will just watch another losing season and actually no one cares.any other franchise the fans would be at the office door, but most of you will never take the time to write a letter, tweet the dude or embarrasse them on facebook. this team is the laughing stock of the nfl and has been for 50 years but yet they have decided to honor LOSERS at every home game.what a pickin joke.the steelers have won 6 super bowls and this bunch cannot ever win a GAME.,BUT I guarantee you the house will be packed next home game.you get just what you deserve.and guess what mike brown does not care if you boo the whole game.he is just smiling because you are in his house, drinkin the water down crap and spendin all your dough.

Agreed..I assumed the lines with Willie and Bobbie still on them did better.  Even recently when we had good lines under PA it was more about pass pro, we've not seemed a tough, aggressive OLine in a long time (as an aside that's why it was fun to see whit moonlight at LG - he really got some push)

We don't value interior lineman and it kills us in the running game.

Nope, it's Palmer's and Dalton's fault. Ninja

Joe Mixon is averaging 3.1 YPC as our feature back. Maybe that Hill guy is not garbage after all.

But, but, but Dalton?!? We have given him talent that 90% of the league would jizz for! This is his fault! Ninja

Lewis has always said we have to be able to run the ball in the North. However, we've been in the top half of the league once. Part of me thinks the OLine coach should shoulder some blame here. Unfortunately, the Bengals front office doesn't agree.

Sounds about right.

Zeitler was a bad run blocker. Keeping him wouldn't of helped our run game if that is what you are saying.

You are right about Bodine, this guy needs replaced right now. Put TJ Johnson at Center and draft a Center early in the draft.

Plug in Andre at RT if Fisher keeps up his poor play, Westerman looked good in the Preseason, don't know why he doesn't get
a shot ever. Redmond also looked good, sucks that Hopkins got hurt but this stuff happens.

The problem is our O-line coach and his passive blocking scheme right now.

Sure would give our Lineman some confidence if they were able to actually pancake a dude once in awhile.

Very interesting perspective. Although I'm one that thinks you should have an equal balance without scripting, many teams have claimed one or the other identity like you say and have been successful at that approach. Maybe the old style way is not as effective as doing what you suggest.

That's really depressing. I didn't realize. But wait, has it been that long since we had Rudy and Dillon? Time friggin flies.

Not sure I get that one.

Yes, Hill is garbage and Mixon is a rookie. Plus, he was used poorly thusfar but had some decent use yesterday to get him acclimated to the NFL. Not to sound like Marvin, but he did some good things and not so good things. It's a long season and I think he might even adapt and learn to run behind a horrible OL.

We had a prime Rudi Johnson for the 2006 season (25th in YPC).

We were also in the 20's a couple times even with Dillon.
