Here's the most recent one I did about JJo.

(01-18-2018, 10:57 AM)TheLeonardLeap Wrote: Bleh.

That reminds me of back when they let JJo leave over guaranteed money/signing bonus. They ended up spending more money on 7 CBs during that time than they would have if they had just paid JJo what he wanted.

Brandon Ghee (3rd round pick + 4yr/$2.44m)
Dre Kirkpatrick (1st round pick + 4yr/$8.6m)
Shaun Prater (5th round pick + 4yr/$2.212 )
Kelly Jennings (1yr/$2m)
Nate Clements (2yr/$10.5m)
Jason Allen (2yr/$8.2m)
Terrence Newman (1yr/$825k)

....were the Bengals attempts to fill JJo's gap in the 2 years following his departure. A 1st, 3rd, 5th round picks, and $34.777m in contracts.... to avoid giving JJo more guaranteed money on a 5yr/$48.75m deal. You figure JJo got $9.75m/yr, so $19.5m in those first two years and those 7 players total $28.151m for those same two years.

So a 1st, 3rd, and 5th round pick, plus $8.651m more than JJo would have cost, to do a lesser job than JJo would have done.

THAT is the Bengals way.

I can't find the Housh one I did, so either I am not digging deep enough, or it was back on the Mothership.

It doesn't get as much attention as the size of college scouting department for the draft, but the Bengals' scouting of pro personnel for free agency is awful.

Look at what the Eagles GM did the past couple of years. It's even more impressive considering he had to clean up Chip Kelly's mess. And he didn't go full Dan Synder during free agency which is always the Mike Brown's apologist go to argument to defend the "model model."

Oh, god. Chase Coffman. Where's OSUfan when you need a good laugh? Not as funny as his Luke Kueckly just doesn't have the it factor for a LBer he looks for pre-draft thread.

It's probably not by accident, that he doesn't post on here..  Along with a few of the others from the mothership that choose to avoid us.

Some of those names were going to be the greatest thing since sliced Bengals flavored bread..
Coffman in particular was going to be the greatest pass catching TE in NFL history, but he was shot down by ex board members..  Cry

We will only be getting a 5th round comp pick for Whitworth. Thanks alot Mike

I know it is trendy to bash MB. But, the reality is the 2017 Bengals sucked and Whitt would not have turned the 3 to 4 wins needed to make the playoffs. So, yep a 6th stinks, but better than keeping him and missing the playoffs so MB is really smart.  Sarcasm

2024 may go on record as one of most underperforming teams in Bengal history. Bengal's FO has major work to do on defensive side of the ball. I say tag and trade Tee Higgins in 2025 to start with the rebuild.

Interesting question.

Early on, 1994 era, there were 1st and 2nd round comp picks, so those are a bit harder to count because they were high picks.

There is only one comp pick in the HoF and that is Larry Allen, who was a 2nd round and pick #46 overall by Dallas in 1994.

Tom Brady was a 6th round comp pick and he'll be HoFer number 2.

Here's a link which lists the top 18 most impactful comp picks. I guess they couldn't come up with 20.

Most Impactful Comp Picks

Considering there are 32 comp picks each year in today's game, 18 out of 32 x 23 (736) years is 2.45% that were impactful. 2.45% would be 1 out of every 48 or so. That's pretty sad. 2 out of 736 have been HoF quality, which is 0.27%. That would only be 1 HoFer by today's rules where the highest comp picks are 3rd rounders.

I have to disagree with you there. I will say that Whit leaving probably is the only reason Alexander isnt here, which I think is a positive.

What if we traded AJ Green for a fifth round pick, would you let that go?
Every time he made the Pro Bowl with another team , you wouldnt revisit it?

We didn't trade Whit, He chose to go somewhere else via FA.

But to answer your question, I really do think I would let it go; but it has been shown time after time I have a different mentality than many here.

No folks are mad because we have the worst GM in the NFL and he continues to F it up and refuses to change his losing ways !

Yeah, I know but I was just trying to compare it. As for letting stuff go, I have no problem doing that! Just yesterday I got over that TD pass to John Taylor that destroyed my Teen years.

The Lumina will have new tires, new wiper blades, and oil changes for life with those savings. Might even get a new coat of wax and an AC recharge. Still plenty of money left over for FA dimner meetings at Wendy’s. Epic win for Mike!

He did so after the FO insulted arguably their most loyal player, locker room leader, and best player. No worries though, we had Ole-hee waiting in the wings.

Brian Dawkins makes 3, and Hines Ward likely makes it 4 with the “played for Steelers Championship teams” voting bump, a la Stallworth and Swann.
