False. Carter is a LB (will be listed on roster as so), who plays in a sub package as a pass rusher in the DE spot. As Marvin has pointed out if he makes the team it will be as a LB, meaning he will have to be competent at LB things like playing in a 2 point and dropping into coverage.

Reread ...... over your head
To your point it doesn't matter what he is listed as. he plays with his hand in the dirt as well so he can play DE. Which he took rep at last night. The point he is arguing is that Hunt must make the final roster because he's the only backup at left end and its simply not true.

If he can get to the QB, that is what he will be expected to do, don't ya think? If he's here for pass rushing skills, that's what he should do. Yes, he'll have to be able to play the run, but will he really be spending any time in coverage?

No.
and he will be seeing very little of the run.
He will be a specialist. He will get favorable matchups vs 2 minute offenses where passing is almost a given.

That's what I thought too.

Teams have done this before. Carter is solid enough on ST and is the only threat with speed and bend besides Dunlap....when you had the leagues lowest sack total the year before, it's time to try something different.

When they're making this decision, I want to be in the room saying "Twenty sacks," over and over again.

Haha!! Let's storm the front office and start chanting that. We need him to help do something to get some sacks and pressure.

...and not from one guy....all 53....
Ugh. Reminds me how much I LOATHE our recent DL picks.
2 giant DEs and a few lemons at DT.
And then this year got lucky with Carter and Johnson as a FA because we had no interest in a pass rusher

I hope he makes the team as a LB
But, let's think about how he is limited and why he is not a true DL
On 3rd and long, we likely will have the following guys on the field if all are healthy:
1. Dunlap
2. Gilberry
3. Geno
4. MJ
So, while I love his pass rushing skills, unless it is 3rd and long or against a 2 minute offense, he may not see the field as he would have to be better than the 4 guys above + Hunt, Clark.
I do love the fact he is also a good special teams player as he add value there and why I think we should keep him. I hope he gets 15 sacks, but I am not sure that goal is realistic even we stay healthy as the guys ahead of him are very good also especially if we keep them all fresh.
I am so ready for 2024 season. I love pro football and hoping for a great Bengals year. Regardless, always remember it is a game and entertainment.

Kinda weird, considering it's a PASSING LEAGUE.

We have the same DL we had in 2013 and a few young guys with them so I am not sure why you loathe our DL picks of MJ, Dunlap, Peko (NT who is well respected in the NFL) and Geno.

Come on. It was pretty clear he did not mean the guys you mentioned.

Stop. It doesn't matter if he's a "true DL" if he can come in and rush the passer he should make the team.
Hunt sucks.
Carter is better than Hunt. Fact.
Hunt won't ever play. Clarke will rarely play.
Hardison can take some DE reps.
Clarke and Gilberry primary backups.
Carter speed rush specialist. What is so hard to understand there?

He's being a tool now. Straw-man arguing because he's mad about Hunt being awful.

It matters when the shoe is on the other foot and a team like the Ravens or Steelers have a 10 point lead on us in the 4th quarter and decide to run the ball down our throat.
I take Hunt over Carter in that scenario to rest our big bodies and stop the run

Let's look at it like this:
even if you get the Hunt-truthers the benefit of the doubt for him "setting the edge"
That gives him 1 advantage over Carter (allegedly)
Run defense - Hunt
Pass rush - Carter
Coverage - Carter
Special teams - Carter

.....You have plenty of guys who can do that already.
I don't think we should carry Andy Dalton because he doesn't block well enough.
He would never be in given that scenario any ways.
Hardison, Clarke, Gilberry, MJ, Dunlap....there ya go. Guys who will be on the roster and better at that job than either Hunt or Carter. Next bad point?
