The other 2 wires--yellow black (t1 and r1) can do a couple things, either provide a 2nd phone line on that one wire, or more commonly, carry the dial tone down the line--commonly called daisy chained or wired in series. The easiest thing to try is to just buy a 4 wire telephone jack and plug it into that. If the line is wired in series, your problem is solved. If it doesn't solve the problem, you're going to need to know how the phone lines were wired up...possibly to a punch down block. Phone line? You sir probably have the most secure internet on the planet. I didn’t even know companies still offered internet over phone lines?

I was almost going to ask my own tech question here about wiping a SSD HDD since I now have 3 OS's on it with only one working, Ubuntu Studio.. I think I'll ask on an actual tech forum somewhere.

I still haven't gotten around to solving this problem. I'm actually considering buying a 1 TB SSD drive...not that I actually have a need for a full terabyte of space. I just like playing around with various operating systems...even a few old obsolete systems and perhaps even a few not intended for home use. If I had the bandwidth I'd install my own server(s) and resell web space from home.. An email server is something I could setup if there was enough interest in having a nice, secure email account run out of my machine(s).. The problem is there are already plenty of free email accounts available to just about anyone who wants one.
