UC Bearcat basketball thread

I think I like this team. I like the new guys. They had a lot to replace and it won't happen overnight but I see nice potential.

I do wish Mick would replace another couple of the cupcakes with better teams but what can you do?

I think Cumberland will be the go to scorer but it looks  overall like the scoring will be spread around.

Totally agree.  And he has a jump shot too.  One thing Cronin's players do is develop over the course of their careers.

Just looking at this roster, if all the juniors come back next season, next year might be something special.

Yep.  If they could play better first halves and defend the three better, they could make some noise this year.

So true.

Not to make excuses, but I think being so badly jobbed by the horrible officiating took a mental toll in the second half.  That Higgins guy should be fired immediately.  He was literally the worst, most one sided ref I have ever seen.  I wanted to reach through the tv and choke him.

Also, that Houston dude with the hideous hair threw up some ridiculous prayers that he'll never make again as long as he lives.  When Houston comes here, it will be an entirely different story.

But, by all that is holy, the Cats have to find other people who can score.

He was terrible on defense, couldn’t hold on to a rebound, missed his FT as usual and threw up a few terrible shots. He basically regressed all the way back to how he played as a sub the last two seasons and not the solid starter he had been this season.

He's not much of a free throw shooter, for sure.  But he got fouled at least a half a dozen times and none were called(twice on one play alone) and got the worst technical ever called called on him.  That shit gets in your head.

If Houston is allowed to beat the hell out of our players and do shit  like go up for a shot and come down with the ball with no call, and go on and score at a critical time, it has an effect.

Two points on the horseshit technical, two points for the correct call that shithead Higgins overturned, the one where he was fifty feet away with no angle on the play and the ref who made the right call was two feet away, two points on the travel not called--that's six points in a seven point loss right there, and that's not even counting all the times UC players were fouled with no call...

Point is, Houston didn't earn that win, they had it handed to them.  I'm not denying Cronin's shortcomings.  They are pretty obvious.  But let's call a spade a spade.  That was a travesty.  If that game is called even close to right, UC is probably leading down the stretch and that changes everything.

This team can  be, even on their best days, painful to watch.

No real offensive scheme beyond Carry us, Jarron.  Maddening habit of giving up wide open 3's.  Terrible knack of letting lesser teams hang around.  Build a 15-20 point lead, lose focus, give up eight or ten point runs, let them back in the game.  Where is the killer instinct?

All of these are things that are death in the NCAA tournament.

Edit: Except Broome.

Allow me to point you back to my previous post.  Though it was not a prediction, it might well have been.  It's just what the Bearcats do.

What the heck was the deal with the ESPN sound, especially in the second half?  Not that I missed it, but I didn't hear ten words Greenberg said the whole second half.  I hate it when the crowd noise is louder than the announcers' mics.

Yep.  I, for one, am ready for a new approach.

While I’m surprised he left I felt the program had plateaued under him. I appreciate what he did here.

Totally agree.  Mick is stuck in a time warp.  No flexibility and very reluctant to adjust.  (Gee, that sounds familiar).

Brannen is a rising star.

And NIck The Quick.  Man, was he fun to watch.  It was the very first UC Midnight Madness and Huggie had just brought in his first class of recruits, the guys who went to the Final Four--Herb Jones, Blount, Van Exel, Buford et al.

A bunch of buddies and I went on the spur of the moment.  The place was practically empty.   We were pretty blown away by those guys.  And Van Exel was amazing.  I mean incredible.  Unguardable.  That was a fun team.

Looks like Cumberland is going to test the NBA waters, and Brooks entered him name into the transfer window.

Just reading up on Brannen’s philosophy and I think players are going to want to play for him, lots of scoring.

In good news, top recruit Curtis, Ohio’s Mr. Basketball, a SG that averaged 34ppg is staying committed...so far.

My brother said Brooks, Johnson and Curtis are thinking about switching teams.  I can't find anything online about the last couple tho.

Good news on Johnson, terrible scorer and the new system has to have guys that can score. He’s from California, so he might end up at UCLA.

I found Fredrickson is transferring, too. Another good thing, the guy is only defense.

I haven't been able to find out any information on either of those guys, I did see something about them reaching out to some Villanova transfer

Looks like Curtis is off to Nebraska, and if Cumberland comes back to school, his cousin could join him here.

I don't know either, maybe he has family or a teammate is there or is going there.  I thought he would stay kinda local or in state.  UC did get a transfer from NKU
