Update on current and former players our fans love to hate
#1
Andre Smith signed with Ravens.
http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap3000001095291/article/ravens-sign-veteran-offensive-tackle-andre-smith

Why would a team possibly Super Bowl bound sign Andre who was called a bum by many?

Anyone else know a former Bengals players trashed that was signed to another team recently or in past 10 years or so?

I am so ready for 2024 season. I love pro football and hoping for a great Bengals year. Regardless, always remember it is a game and entertainment.

I’m sorry... so... the ravens simply signing Andre somehow means he isn’t washed up?

Andre is obviously a shell of what he used to be. Being signed by a super bowl contender doesn’t change that

I'm sure he's just gonna be a backup. A just in case signing.

Dre could be a potential back up guard maybe, but he is clearly washed up.

In 2018 he allowed as many sacks in 8 games before the Cards cut him as Bobby Hart did all year.  Then we opened 2019 with him not only starting, but starting at LEFT TACKLE.  That is the best proof of what a joke our O-line was this year.

Margus Hunt started 15 games for the Colts in 2018.  He had 5 sacks, 6 QB hits, and 13 tackles for loss.  Colts gave him a 2 year $9 million contract after that season and in 2019 he had zero sacks or TFL despite playing all 16 games.

Wasn't a couple of those sacks against us ? Sack and hit maybe ? Probably beating Andre Smith.

Didn't play the Colts in 2018.

Did in 2017 and yes, he had, I believe, 1 TFL or 1 sack.

Brian Hill (Falcons)…..12 games...323 rush yards, 4.1 avg. ...10 rec., 6.9 avg, 3 tds
Mark Walton (Miami).. 7 games...201 rush yards, 3.8 avg. ...15 rec., 5.9 avg, 0 tds. 1 new arrest.

You think our running game was bad? Mark Walton's 201 yards was the most by any RB on the Dolphins. Ryan Fitzpatrick led the team in rushing with 243 yds.

Margus had two sacks, and 3 TFL against the Bengals opening day 2018.  But Dre was playing for the Cardinals then.

(a sack is a TFL)

DB Josh Shaw (7th on the Bengals in tackles in 2016) was suspended for gambling on NFL games.

This is the same guy who dropped in the raft because he lied about injuring himself jumping out of his girlfriends window.

He's depth at this point. Decent chance to get a ring now, cant hate on that.

2 - 14 and get a SB ring? Now that’s a participation trophy unlike any I’ve heard of in sports.

Edit: would actually be 0-9 since we let him go 11-30-19. That’s worse yet. Our record after letting him go was 2-3.

Good stuff...I thought Margus would have made a great swing DT/DE with that wingspan to bat balls and the strength to close the pocket but it just never transpired.  Amazing his drop off from last year...injured?  Who knows.  Another classic case of the Bengals drafting an athlete instead of a football player.

Ravens signed Big Willie after we decided Collins was a better RT. Mistake

Ravens signed Bobbie Williams and he won a Super Bowl (but he was nothing more than a back up)

A lot of folks didn't like Terrence Newman when he was here and said he was washed up. He gave Minny 3 more good years

Back when CP9 was eating up all the cap and his play was declining I suggested we should role with Fitzmagic. I was told he'd never be a starter in the NFL. That was 124 starts ago.

I think a couple qualifiers went on to do pretty good in SF.

Folks were assigning the bust label to Justin Smith (unfairly)

Folks were tired of Ahmad Brook's antics (fairly)
