Deceitful, two-faced she-woman. Never trust a female, Delmar, remember that one simple precept and your time with me will not have been ill spent.

No to Janis Joplin. She just screamed and groaned.

One song at a time sounds okay, but listening to a whoel CD gets old real quick.

Big Concrete Blondes fan. But I'd have to say my favorite is Florence Welch.

Well, If you're going to lean it toward pop music, I would think that any top list would have to have Aretha Frankin and Whitney Houston as 1/1A, and most definitely Adele in the top 5.

Yeah, Aretha is basically unrivaled IMO.  She was a total force of nature.

I'd toss Ronnie Spector in there, too.  She was the original bad girl.  Timeless voice.

Her contribution isn't massive, but Merry Clayton is also significant for her vocals on Gimmie Shelter.  She managed to upstage the best frontman in rock history on that song.

Stevie gets the love, but I'm partial to Christine McVie. I see her as the alpha female of that band.

I don't know if Florence Welch is a rock singer, but she's just about the best I've heard from the modern group. I like everything about her.

Also, honorable mention for Corrine Tucker from Sleater-Kinney. Kick-ass guitar player and singer.

Yup; a woman celebrated for her non-musical attributes, rather than her musical attributes.

Annoying to death and doesn't actually sing; shrieking and yelling, like Robert Plant, 50% of the time.

Pop Singer, IMO.

Also, more-beloved for her look than her singing chops (which are average at best, I feel).

The names people are putting in here (Ella, Aretha, etc.) are absolutely NOT rock singers lol; phenomenal singers yes, but not rock.

She by no means has a pleasant voice and also yells to death, but Tairrie B has one of the most powerful voices I have ever heard in rock/rock subgenres; WOW can she belt it out. Sure, it doesn't sound too great LOL but for raw power in a singing voice, few (if any) can touch her.

That shrieking and yelling is in key though... Don't believe me? Watch somebody karaoke Janis sometime.

My husband and two of our dearest friends went to see them and it was a beautiful experience. Florence is an amazing singer and performer. Her natural vibrato is like none other.

Not my kind of music, not specifically rock'n'roll but Lara Fabian is a hell of an interpret.

She's from Belgium and she has the presence of Jacques Brel on stage.

Besides that I like Lera Lynn.

Yeah, somewhere the thread went from "rock" to "most genres", but some artists are good enough to transcend over multiple styles of music.  Heck, even "rock" is a very vague term, so many different types and styles.  What started out at "rock" music, back in the '50's has most definitely morphed into what most folks would consider "pop" or "top 40" music.  So, I guess technically, you can't blame a listener to call "pop" rock music, as that is where it all came from.

Indeed.

Half of Rock is ripped off from Blues and R&B (don't get me started on how THAT has been distorted lol) as well...
