Weird. maybe they were waiting for final diagnosis to put him on IR or maybe just miss one or two games instead... the moves did not really matter Williams was very low risk to lose RE: 2024 Bengals Free Agency/Roster Thread - WeezyBengal - 08-29-2024 (08-29-2024, 11:48 AM)Nicomo Cosca Wrote: Describes their entire plan at NT tbh. Not ideal of course but BJ Hill is a good run stopper and Rankins was a good run stopper with the Jets when he was asked to stop the run. Honestly just need our DT's to take up blockers and open it up for the other guys to make tackles and we could be just fine. I know we will be better in pass rushing situations this year with Rankins for damn sure. I have been one of the biggest advocates for bringing Reader back. We paid Sample & ADG more than the Lions paid Reader this year. I was VERY upset when we let him walk. However, I think the FO/coaches believe that some is the issues with the run D eminated from the safties (Hill, Scott, Battle) not getting the calls right/or communicating it fast enough. They believe that Stone/Bell back there helps fix the issue. Kris Jenkins was maybe the best run stopping DT in the draft. And Jackson probably the best NT after Sweat. I like both guys a lot. Im not sure that will be the case. He was not very good at double gap. He is not a true 1 to 1 replacement for Reader skillset wise. Size-wise maybe, but his game is truly different. I would challenge you for biggest advocate for DJ, we defitniely agree on that one. Reader was a top 5 player on the team during our deep playoff runs. I’d argue it was Burrow, Chase, Reader, Hendrickson, Bates. In that order. Losing him could certainly blow up in their faces. RE: 2024 Bengals Free Agency/Roster Thread - jj22 - 08-30-2024 I don't think they intended on losing Reader. I think it was one of those Bell / Perine things. They played their hand by offering the pitiful contract to open negotiations (as they like to do), and then watched another team woo them away. These players always end up saying they "felt wanted" by the other team even thought the Bengals try to match the offer once the negotiations with the new team is nearly done. I think if they planned on losing Reader, they would have drafted a replacement in 2023. Or at least tried to get a replacement in the building (rather that player would have worked out or not who know). Agreed on them not being precisely the same guy. The FO lost the bet on letting Bates & Bell walk to replace with Hill/Scott/Battle. Thiugh at least Battle played well & they only took one year to fix it. Letting Hurst go for Irv Smith was a disaster. Hopefully only a 1 year one with Gesicki & the rooks here. We have mot had a good track revord recently replacing some of our better vets. Jackson & Jenkins are both hurt after Reader & Tupou left. Burton seems immature (shocker) after Boyd left. If Murphy was to be the heir to Trey (or Sam) at DE, that is not going well, either. Mixon is gone as well. And both star receivers are out. I give this offseason a D.
