RE: Lorenzo Carter Linebacker Georgia - Hammerstripes - 04-06-2018

He's not a fit at LB in our system.

He could be a DE much like Lawson is in our system

Lawson is not going to be an every down DE. The coaches have already stated they want to play him at SAM.

I sure hope Lawson really improves in space so he can cover a touch or this could really backfire.

If i was the opposing Offense i would line up my best pass catching TE in front of Carl and attack him all day through the air...

By this logic no one would ever cover anyone in a 3-4 because 80% of the time one of your OLB are in coverage (basically what Lawson’s is). He can cover enough to get by, most the time it’ll be some sort of zone coverage but he will occasionally man up a TE or HB which isn’t going to be a huge deal he just has to understand where his help is.

RE: Lorenzo Carter Linebacker Georgia - SunsetBengal - 04-08-2018

As far as a productive addition to the defense, I'd go with Carter over Arden Key, in a heartbeat. Both have similar body styles, but contrasting personas. Carter appears to be more coachable, higher ceiling, more of a team player.

https://www.nfl.com/prospects/lorenzo-carter?id=32462018-0002-5601-5036-eb588e2850ea

6'6"  250 pounds with 36" arms.

Overview
Carter was a five-star prospect and one of the most heralded players in the nation when he was recruited by Georgia but he never made the impact expected of him as a Bulldog. However, Carter played with increased toughness and confidence this year and his NFL potential began to reassert itself once again. Carter is an outside linebacker in a 3-4 or 4-3 with sideline-to-sideline range and the tools to become a productive edge rusher in sub-packages. He needs to add more bulk, but he is a future NFL starter.

Strengths

Tremendously long and rangy
Long strider with ability to cover ground quickly and close on wide flowing plays
Effective use of arm length
Consistent punch and separation against blocks
Takes contain responsibilities seriously
Plus quickness in lateral slides
Frame unravels to catch running backs who think they are in the clear
Uses long-arm stab to access blocker's frame and set the edge
Build-up speed creates downfield angles to the sideline to challenge ball carriers and receivers after catch
Active as tackler to search for and yank at the football
Forced and recovered six career fumbles
Has edge-threatening get-off
Uses slinky upper body to slide around blocker's punch
Flashes talent to flip hips around the arc and flatten to the quarterback
Posted 15 career sacks

Weaknesses

Gangly frame begging for more weight and muscle
Thin legs offer subpar base
Long tackles can neutralize his length and push him around
Not ready to handle downhill rushing attack headed for his doorstep
Herd tackler with just moderate solo numbers
More of a straight-line mover than expected
Rush can be too easily stalled when rushing as an end
Slow to activate hands as a pass rusher
Will need to develop rush plan and hand usage to counter his lack of play strength
Not enough boom for conversion of speed to power
In my Double Down Mock Draft I just posted, he is certainly one of the LB's we could get taking LB in 3 and 4 after taking a top Guard and then a Top center in 1 and 2.  Could you live with us getting Wynn or Henandez followed by Price or Daniels for run and pass blocking. Then we get Carter and either Nwuso, Moore, Warned or Avery because we really could use more than 1 LB. If one can edge rush, Bengals want that. I can see us getting Carter, an edge rushing LB also and getting the top O Linemen early. I would love it.

By this logic you are saying that Lawson can cover, he hasn't proven this yet. Just saying i would like to have some insurance
in case he is purely a pass rusher which so far, is the case. Really hope he improves in coverage and stopping the run i just am
not banking on it.

I like what i see from Carter already better in these aspects.

I am saying Lawson will cover how well is yet to be seen. Covering places over people is how most 3-4 blitzing defenses work, you just need them to run enough man to keep them honest. The problem with making him a pure pass rusher is you basically take him off the field for at least a 3rd of the game which you don't do with talent.

We don't run a 3-4 Defense. Mellow

I agree that we should try and see if Lawson can cover and stop the run so we can keep him on the field with that talent.

Like i said, i am just not banking on it. It is all on him on whether he plays more snaps or not.

Need to Draft a SAM backer just in case and i think Carter could be a good one.

Right it goes back to what I was saying about him being used similarly to how 3-4 OLB are utilized, places over people. The fact they actively said at the owner meetings expect to see Lawson playing LB this year means they believe he can cover enough to make it work, stopping the run won't be an issue it's just understanding leverage which he should get from playing DE in college especially in the SEC.

Cool man, i getcha. Hope he can do it. Dude is a talented player.

Anybody watch Lorenzo Carter alot? - bengalsturntup926 - 04-18-2018

Can he cover at all? I really like him as a prospect ,but we got one tweener already in Lawson . I doubt they'd have two of them guys. But for a big guy he looks good.i don't know how much good he is at linebacker because his highlights is rushing the passer mostly.

I started a thread on Carter couple days ago or more.  He runs to the ball well.  I think he has high football IQ.  He may be DE at next level or possibly SAM.

MARVin gonna ruin another linebacker trying to stand up a rush specialist

Actually Carter is predicted by most to be OLB at the next Level because he has lean muscle body-mass.

Well he can do both, that is the thing. Au165 kind of got into it a bit in this thread cause i just don't see
the similarities between Carter and Lawson besides they can both rush the passer. I think with Carter's
length he presents a much bigger dude to throw over and he doesn't look near as lost in space as Carl
does the rare times when they both drop into coverage.

Ragnow/Carter/Crosby

Calling it. Cool

While the fans may want LB, I think we need to trust the beat writers when they say the Bengals will wait until Day 3 to address LB. They went out and got Brown. Bengals coaches said they want to get Lawson more into the traditional SAM role to get him more reps. Plus we know they are stubborn about Vigil and Evans. They aren't going to take a LB high just because Burfict is suspended four games.

I think it's more likely the Bengals take a DT or S before LB.

Could be right, that is what good ole Jim O said. No Linebacker till the mid rounds.

Lorenzo Carter just seems like a Merv pick. But i guess Lawson is already here and they think he can cover
and stop the run. I hope he can, putting a lot of eggs in that one basket. Vigil and Evans are WILL backers
from all i have seen of them, Vigil especially was terrible at SAM last year.

His one good game against the Bills he was playing WILL and Burfict was playing SAM ironically.

I really liked what I seen out of Evans last year. I believe he is going to steal one of the 3 down linebacker spots.
